My struggle with BRCA1 mutation diagnosis, and my efforts to minimize my risk of cancer. Saturday, November 17, 2007. 6 months post bilateral prophylactic mastectomy. Wow, yesterday was the 6 month anniversary of my BPM. Time flies and it crawls. I am happy to be done, and just starting to feel like BRCA is no longer ruling my life. Feeling a little more detached from the whole situation. I no longer feel defined by my BRCA status. Two new recent cancer pain patients added to my practice. In the midst of...

My struggle with BRCA1 mutation diagnosis, and my efforts to minimize my risk of cancer. Sunday, April 29, 2007. Preparations, surgery and beyond. I was thrilled to meet with two FORCE members, who were very helpful and supportive, giving me advice about my surgeries. Returned in time to have an early Easter dinner with friends in Auburn Hills. Unfortunately Pam's mom was not feeling well enough to attend. Bowel prep Sunday. No problem. No fun. Had to get up by 5 AM to get tot he hospital on time.

IHFA Wellness Boot Camp. Last week the journal, Nature Communications, published a landmark study examining the negative effects of sugar consumption in mice (1). I know what you’re thinking ”Oh, no! Not another one.” But, this study is different for a few important reasons. (Would I really bother blogging on it otherwise? Just mice. Can these dramatic effects of sugar on important health measures, such as mortality and reproductive capacity, really be applied to humans? Perhaps, it just has. In the mean...

This summer fits in to the "lots to say, but what is the point" category. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Shelfari: Book reviews on your book blog.

My struggle with BRCA1 mutation diagnosis, and my efforts to minimize my risk of cancer. Saturday, September 29, 2007. 2nd draft of general newspaper article. Of course, I have no idea if my local paper will let me write my own article. My contact person is primarily a photographer, so that may help. 1500 words. Not sure if that is too long.
