Nurse's Notes: Mountaineering Memoirs

http://juliesnursenotes.blogspot.com/2011/07/mountaineering-memoirs.html

Friday, July 8, 2011. I slept for a few hours in the tent, then woke with Bethany and Katie in time to enjoy the last of the sun's warm golden light as it sunk into a frosty horizon. We periodically stopped for breaks, but inside I just wanted to press on, to get to the top. "This is do-able. The summit is so close," I thought. At about this point in my reflections we crested the summit. After chugging down all the water that I could get, it felt great just to soak in the spectacular panorama that su...

Nurse's Notes: Taste and See

http://juliesnursenotes.blogspot.com/2010/11/taste-and-see.html

Wednesday, November 24, 2010. Thanksgiving is a time to worship Jesus and reflect on His provision. And on this American holiday week, and consequently my last full day in Doro, I can think of no better time to thank God for the joy of life in Him. I have never experienced His love and provision like I have today! How exciting to witness new life because of God's provision! If the plane had not been available, the mother would have had to travel to the closest surgical hospital: 6 hours by car! Thanks so...

Nurse's Notes: February 2010

http://juliesnursenotes.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 25, 2010. Last July, I began the application process with SIM (Serving in Mission) to help as a nurse at a mission clinic in the South of Sudan. SIM is an interdenominational mission organization that focuses on glorifying Christ by evangelizing the unreached, ministering to human need, discipling believers, and equipping churches to fulfill the Great Commission (Matt 28:18-20). The godly testimony of SIM missionaries has influenced my decision to serve with SIM in Sudan.

Nurse's Notes: January 2010

http://juliesnursenotes.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, January 26, 2010. First Steps to Doro. Pictured: Missionary candidates at SIMStart. A little over a week ago, I returned from the initial SIM orientation in North Carolina. It was an exciting time to get to know missionaries that had been on the field, learn about the process to get there, to be reviewed by the staff, and to get acquainted with fellow missionary candidates. I enjoyed getting acquainted with so many others who have a passion for sharing Christ's love in various nations.

right here right now: A Future and a Hope

http://awaitressnamedlinda.blogspot.com/2011/04/hope.html

Right here right now. Discovering joy in the journey. Monday, 11 April 2011. A Future and a Hope. I was leaving a friend's house late one evening last week when I saw her in the lobby. A tall, dark-haired, beautiful woman in her mid-40's, crying softly as she sat on the bench. When she saw me she tried to conceal her tears. For a minute I stood and felt a little awkward. Fiddled with my phone. Thought about what to do. Prayed for wisdom. She shrugged. "How could you possibly help? I prayed for her outsid...

http://awaitressnamedlinda.blogspot.com/2015/06/what-if.html

Right here right now. Discovering joy in the journey. Wednesday, 3 June 2015. I went out for coffee with a dear friend. We don't see each other often, but she is the kind of person whose depth and wisdom and joy meet me at a soul level. No pretentions, no attempts at being surficial, no skirting around one another's hurt. Just raw and real. And refreshing. The present. The now. The obstacles to the future you are dreaming for. They are real, and they are here now, and they may never be hurdled. I have of...

right here right now: Arthropods in Africa

http://awaitressnamedlinda.blogspot.com/2012/09/arthropods-in-africa.html

Right here right now. Discovering joy in the journey. Tuesday, 11 September 2012. I don't think that arthopods in Africa and facing fear in life is a perfect analogy. If it was, I would break down every aspect of it with a cheezy line of peppy encouragement. But, that's not how I roll. In a nutshell:. Bugs gross me out. I don't get God when I think about them. Unwelcome, they invade anyway, and living in fear is incompatible with contentment and joy. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Right here right now. Discovering joy in the journey. Monday, 10 January 2011. It is referendum week in Sudan from January 9th to 15th. The Southerners are voting to determine if Africa's largest nation will remain one or divide into two. Please pray for the decision of the people to be held on both sides of the border, and that peace will prevail for all of Sudan's people. The results of the vote are set to be announced sometime early February. How can I subscribe to your blog Sandra?

Right here right now. Discovering joy in the journey. Monday, 30 July 2012. It's funny (peculiar, not haha) when a day just isn't a celebration anymore. A day of phone calls and well wishes and thoughts and milestones becomes dreaded. Silent. Almost overwhelming. The conversation I have with myself every day - wondering if you are really gone - lets the disbelieving voice be especially convincing today. Not possible, right? Hey", I said, "It's my brother's birthday today too! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

right here right now: The wind and the waves

http://awaitressnamedlinda.blogspot.com/2010/12/wind-and-waves.html

Right here right now. Discovering joy in the journey. Monday, 27 December 2010. The wind and the waves. I was in Victoria this last week, and one morning run took me down a cement barge and down to the lighthouse. The wind was strong that day, and waves crashed into the barrier and sent spray up and over the edge. One one side the sea raged, on the other the harbour was calm. Few of us made it to the end, and those who did arrived soaking wet. Love you, Friend. - BD. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

http://awaitressnamedlinda.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Right here right now. Discovering joy in the journey. Wednesday, 3 June 2015. The concept of goodbye is a final thing. We try to cut the pain of farewells by saying "see you later" instead of "goodbye". Goodbyes are for finality, for closure, and when we bring ourselves to a place of uttering the words, it symbolizes that somewhere in our hearts and in time a door has been shut that we cannot go through again. Except that. I do not believe that goodbye is so final. I revisit it over and over again. Ouch ...

My Nutshell

Friday, January 25, 2013. This is maybe the best thing I have ever seen. So good I had to post it pronto. Even if that means it’s my second post of the day. Okay, enough with the dramatics. I laughed, I cried… you will too. Or else you have no soul. For bringing this into my life. Photo taken in a poppy field in the ever so lovely Val D’Orcia, Tuscany last May.
