Art Inspiration. Reflection. Monday, January 26, 2015. Art For A Cause: Believe in the Dream! Basket Bingos, Raffles, and other fundraisers are a big deal around here. It seems that everywhere I look there is another worthy organization trying to make money or a group trying to raise funds for a struggling family. Both of my sons schools are looking to raise money this year- -. This year, I decided to make a piece of art to contribute to the cause. You can buy this piece here: BelieveintheDream. 160;I am...

Art Inspiration. Reflection. Sunday, April 10, 2016. Paint Like a Preschooler. However, when I recently did a project with a local preschool I was reminded that preschoolers really do make the best artists. It was Picasso who said:. It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child". Pizza, a harp, musical notes, mountains, oceans, ladybugs, birds, bees, flowers, trees, balloons, a kite, boats, rainbows, some bugs, a bat, a horse, a dog, and a lion. I made one final collag...

Art Inspiration. Reflection. Sunday, June 21, 2015. Putting Myself Out There. Once I committed to living an "artist life" I had to then figure out what to do with this art that I was creating. This is not such a simple task. There is a big difference between creating art and promoting (and hopefully selling) art. And, living in a small town, whenever I get to show my work at a gallery or cool venue, I feel extremely lucky. Lots of the people who come to the gallery are also artists themselves. This month...

Art Inspiration. Reflection. Wednesday, September 21, 2016. DIY Woven Wall Hanging. Today in the studio I finally did something with the bits and pieces of leftover yarn I've been collecting for a while. I decided to try my hand at weaving. The nice thing about weaving is you don't really need to have any special skills and it can be done with random bits of yarn and fabric. Here are the supplies I used:. A latch hook mat. You can get them in the sewing section at any craft store). Then I poked the yarn ...

Art Inspiration. Reflection. Monday, February 1, 2016. Warm and Cool "Pop Hearts" for Valentine's Day. I just love making art with kids. This past week we held an art day at my children's elementary school. I spent the day making art with the whole school and we had a lot of fun. For the younger grades (kindergarten through third grade) project we made "Pop Art Hearts" by using warm colors (reds, oranges, pinks) and cool colors (blues, greens, purples). I taught the kids about warm and cool colors. 160;I...

Art Inspiration. Reflection. Sunday, November 30, 2014. The Evolution of a Painting. The Evolution of a Painting. I like to document my creative process when I can (when I remember), because it is a tangible reminder when presented with a final piece, that this was not the only possible final piece or outcome. This piece (any piece) represents the outcome of a series of choices, each dependant upon the one before. Communicating with my client. And here (below) is the final! 160;I am a mixed media artist,...

Art Inspiration. Reflection. Thursday, June 2, 2016. Taking It All Down. I'm very late in posting images from my museum show. So late, in fact, that the show is already over. I figure now is as good a time as any to share the images, now that the show is only a memory (Sad tear dripping down my face). Here are some images from Julie Wohl: Inspiration and Tradition, at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art (January 23 to May 7). It was a great run. Many thanks to everyone who came out to support! Art Inspiration. Reflection. Sunday, October 19, 2014. Dolls Dolls and More Dolls! These past few weeks I have been making dolls non-stop. I don't want to do anything else! I'm having so much fun imagining different characters and then figuring out how to make them a reality. At each step I find that I discover a new technique (usually by accident) and I love that I never know what is going to happen next. At first I thought I wanted to simply make hand painted dolls like these:. Thanks for being here!
