This idea of the day to night shift can probably apply to many cities around the world, but the best course of action as a designer depends on the culture of that city. In Pingyao’s case, I think creating more opportunities during the day would be a better choice, especially since we left too early to experience the night.

Env china – julianne pineda. Staring through the hanging leaves. You see the pagoda reaching towards the sky. Square square, circle circle circle. Until the dome stretches. The white blends into the sky. Connecting the earth with the heavens. Walking down these market streets filled with people. Watching the artists work, taking paint from pots and brushing them onto thin cloth. Listening to the random conversations from the men playing games on the street. Tasting the cold ice cream during this hot day.
