Jungle Marathon 2009 - Paul Haughney

Sunday, 1 November 2009. Stage 6 (Final Stage) - Jungle Marathon - 17th October. At last, after getting a good rest on the previous day we were now fired up for the final Stage of the Jungle Marathon. The base camp was buzzing with a lot of excitement as all those on the start line now knew they were nearly there. As we got closer to the finish line we decided to get our national flags flying. I managed to pin mine to my walking pole and Mark used an old stick found on the riverside and managed to ge...

Jungle Marathon 2009 - Paul Haughney: September 2009

http://junglemarathon2009.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 30 September 2009. Jungle Marathon Kit List Check. Yesterday I hooked up with my jungle buddy, Mark 'Tough Guy' Cooke, and we went through our final kit check. With just 1 week left before we depart to Brazil it was imperative we do a final check to ensure we at least had ALL the Mandatory Equipment/Kit which includes a number of 'Compulsory' first aid items. The following is pretty much what we'll each be taking with us and which we have to carry each day. Head Torch and spare batteries.

Jungle Marathon 2009 - Paul Haughney: Final Preparations at Itapuama Base Camp

http://junglemarathon2009.blogspot.com/2009/10/final-preparations-at-itapuama-base.html

Saturday, 24 October 2009. Final Preparations at Itapuama Base Camp. Well, we eventually reached our base camp at Itapuama which is a small settlement on the banks of the river Tapajos. The Tapajos is a 'massive' tributary of the Amazon which is equally impressive. Salts would play a major part in how we perform. This was to ring true when after the first stage was finished there were 4 racers who were withdrawn because of hydration and salt related issues. More on this on my Stage 1 report. Stage 5 - Ju...

Jungle Marathon 2009 - Paul Haughney: Stage 1 - Jungle Marathon - Sunday 11th October

http://junglemarathon2009.blogspot.com/2009/10/stage-1-jungle-marathon.html

Saturday, 24 October 2009. Stage 1 - Jungle Marathon - Sunday 11th October. Stage 1 of the Jungle Marathon was meant to be a 'sharp shock' to the system, even though it was only 15km long. The start of the race consisted of a short hike before a very short river crossing. The main part of the stage consisted of lots of steep climbs and decents this stage was designed to 'break' the weaker competitors and I must admit although it was very very tough I did. I AM RAISING MONEY FOR CANCER RESEARCH UK:. Stage...

Sunday, 13 February 2011. As I near my final few long training sessions in preparation for the Atacama Crossing I think back on the time when I had registered for the Marathon des Sables(MDS) thinking that it would be a once in a lifetime effort at an ultra marathon and here I am preparing to start in to my 3rd ultra! MDS 2007, Sahara Egypt 2008 and now Atacama Crossing 2011. The race is made up of 6 stages commencing on Sunday 6th March (just three weeks from today! 352km/ 21.9 miles Stage 2.

Atacama Crossing 2011: 12 days to Go!

http://mariansatacamacrossing2011.blogspot.com/2011/02/12-days-to-go.html

Tuesday, 22 February 2011. 12 days to Go! In 12 days time I will be at the start line of the Atacama Crossing. Where on earth did the time go? First I was counting down the months, then it was weeks and here I am now with just DAYS to go. My long training has now come to a stop and this last week now I will be using my exercise bike daily and will probably go swimming a couple of days just to keep off my feet as much as possible while still keeping mobile. Headlamp(Petzl) and Back-Up Light. Energy Bars/G...

Atacama Crossing 2011: On My Way

http://mariansatacamacrossing2011.blogspot.com/2011/03/on-my-way.html

Wednesday, 2 March 2011. Well, this is it! I'm leaving for the airport in about an hours time and am trying to stay calm. I was surprised that I actually had a good sleep last night but feel a bit queezy this morning. Partly nervousness and partly from excitement! I have closed the bags so hopefully I have remembered everything! So, I guess we're sorted for the week as regards medical help. We are also sharing with an IT consultant, a construction expert AND an Austrian commedian,. Wish me luck xx. Ever ...

Wednesday, 23 February 2011. But, I soon picked myself up and, if I may not have been the fittest and fastest person partiscipating in the event, what I lacked in fitness I made up for with sheer determination and a positive focus on what it was I wanted to achieve and there was no way that I wasn't going to finish! Jungle Market & Spa

Jungle Market and Spa. Jueves, 8 de julio de 2010. Last January I began planning for Mother's Day. I thought it would be fun if we took an excursion so I called a Cancun bus company and made a fantasic deal for a one day excursion! I had a meeting with the woman and announced the Mother's Day excursion and planned route. We would go south to Coba to the ruins site, then to Akumal beach for some fun in ths sun and swimming, lunch, and volleyball game, and come back to Puerto Morelos making a stop in.
