Saturday, March 3, 2012. 수덕사에 혜암스님이라고 큰 스님이 계셨습니다. 불교신문에 종사하는 한 기자가 이렇게 질문을 했습니다. 큰 스님 극락이 있습니까. 큰 스님께서 빙긋이 웃으시더니 사립문밖 한길이 장안을 향했도다. 극락이 있냐 하니까 사립문밖 한 길이 장안을 향했도다. 왜 극락이 있냐 물었을까. 죽어서 좋은데 갈려고 물었겠죠. 사립문밖 한길 이라는게 무슨 말이요. 사립문 이라는것은 자기 집에서 문을 열고 나가는 자기집 대문밖 한길 이라는건데 그것이 어디를 향했다. 사람마다 다 받아 들이는게 다를 것이지만 평범하게 생각 해본다면 극락이 있느니 없느니 어떻게 하면 가느니 그런 얘기가 필요없다. 지금 여기서 네가 어떻게 하느냐. 바로 지금 여기 내가 어떻게 하느냐. 지금 어떤 말을 하고 어떤 행동을 하느냐 이것이 모든 것을 결정하고 행동하니 이게 제일 중요하다는 것이다.
