Sleep walking, or somnambulism, is a well known parasomnia. Parasomnias are a large category of behaviors that are associated with waking activity but are being exhibited during sleep or a near sleep state. Parasomnias seem to be the result of when the mind and body are no longer connected as you sleep. Some cases have shown that such disorders are indicative of a neuromuscular diseases and can be treated accordingly. In some cases, some people seem to enjoy it and view it with a sense of humor. However, it can be disturbing, annoying, embarrassing and is a potentially serious problem for some couples and individuals. Treating this disorder is tricky at best, although not impossible.
