Just Another Lego Blog: March 2014
http://justanotherlegoblog.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 4 March 2014. We can rebuild it. Bigger, faster. Longer! Double review : 42010 Off-road Racer and 42011 Race Car. As part of my ‘working through my backlog of sets’ programme, I recently settled down to build two vehicles that form a loose pair. The Off-road Racer and the Race Car were released in January 2013, just as I was starting my collecting habit. Of all the Technic sets that were available at the time, these were the last that I picked up. Anyway, we’ll come back to that later. So when a...
Just Another Lego Blog: May 2013
http://justanotherlegoblog.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 28 May 2013. Reveiw : Lego Technic 9391 Tracked Crane (Part 2). Rather more days later than I originally anticipated (1), and I’ve got round to dismantling the Tracked Crane and building the 9391 ‘B’ model, the bulldozer. That also move, but that’s a simple ‘get hold of it and move it’ arrangement. Still, a nice little model. The Lego Technic 9391 'B' Model - the Bulldozer. Probably just me being picky. (2). As mentioned, a pretty straightforward build, with a gearwheel at the back of the ‘...
Just Another Lego Blog: November 2013
http://justanotherlegoblog.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 13 November 2013. So That 'Technic only' rule. As I’ve mentioned before, the only way I can keep this Lego habit of mine down to reasonable proportions is to restrict it to just Technic. Ok, I’ve drifted once or twice, usually with Star Wars stuff, but that’s allowed. Because it’s Star Wars. Although it looked like a small, brown dog to me. After a couple of days of this, I began to get the itch for an Advent calendar of my own. Of course, searching high and low revealed that absolutely ev...
Just Another Lego Blog: December 2013
http://justanotherlegoblog.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Friday, 27 December 2013. It’s simultaneously both depressing and a testament to the songwriters art that for a long time now, I have been unable to hear the words ‘It’s Christmastime’. Without mentally adding ‘Mistletoe and Wine’. I mean, if you’re going to have a Christmas song stuck in your head, at least make it a good one. Or indeed, the greatest Christmas song ever! But this year though, thanks to some forward planning, it was going to be 24 days of Star Wars. X-Wings! A Falcon, a Tie Fighter!
Just Another Lego Blog: Small but perfectly formed. Review : Star Wars Microfighters
http://justanotherlegoblog.blogspot.com/2015/04/small-but-perfectly-formed-review-star.html
Friday, 17 April 2015. Small but perfectly formed. Review : Star Wars Microfighters. As well as Lego, I have an interest in all things Japanese. (1). And for people with an interest in Japanese culture, the gateway can often be anime and manga. (2). It’s just a style. No, it doesn’t make a lot of sense if you’re not familiar with J-Culture, but trust me - it’s cute. So what’s all this got to do with Lego? Last year, Lego released six models in the series. They weren’t the first - there were fiv...But the...

Big Sal's Brick Blog: An Introduction
http://bigsalsbrickblog.blogspot.com/2014/08/test.html
Big Sal's Brick Blog. Monday, 4 August 2014. I'm Big Sal, an AFOL living in Leeds, UK. I'm primarily a builder, and although I collect some themes (always Space. And also Lord of the Rings. At the time of writing), my sets tend to end up in the parts bins sooner or later. You can find all my MOCs on flickr. And I usually post the good ones on Eurobricks. As well. In the days before flickr gave everyone a terabyte of space I used to host my images on Brickshelf. And I sometimes post. On the forum there.
Big Sal's Brick Blog: It was all basic bricks in my day: part one

Big Sal's Brick Blog. Saturday, 9 August 2014. It was all basic bricks in my day: part one. If there's one thing you're guaranteed to hear from the general public at an exhibit, it's some variant of "When I was a kid, it was all just basic bricks". And when it's just a well intentioned comment on the detail and complexity of your models, it's not a problem. If there are three things you're guaranteed to see in the comments section of any mainstream news or comment article about Lego, it's these:. When pe...
Big Sal's Brick Blog: April 2015
http://bigsalsbrickblog.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Big Sal's Brick Blog. Sunday, 26 April 2015. Review: Bricks Issue 1. First up for review is Bricks, which seems to be going for more or less the same sort of content as Blocks. The writing team for Bricks' first issue is almost exactly the same as it was for Issue 1 of Blocks, so it'll be interesting to see how different these two magazines are. Price: £4.99. Print or digital, print version comes with digital copy). Advert pages: 12 (all relevant, mostly for exhibitions, custom figs or Bricks itself).
Big Sal's Brick Blog: It was all basic bricks in my day: part three
http://bigsalsbrickblog.blogspot.com/2015/04/it-was-all-basic-bricks-in-my-day-part.html
Big Sal's Brick Blog. Friday, 3 April 2015. It was all basic bricks in my day: part three. Well, that took longer than expected. You've waited long enough, so I'll dive straight into the results with a minimum of introduction. On the assumption that any part that appears in sets from multiple themes can't be particularly specialised I've defined a specialised part here as one that has appeared in less than 25% of Bricklink's categories. Sets these days are not. The bad years of the late 90's and early 20...

http://bigsalsbrickblog.blogspot.com/2014/08/it-was-all-basic-bricks-in-my-day-part_20.html
Big Sal's Brick Blog. Wednesday, 20 August 2014. It was all basic bricks in my day: part two. Note: In the process of writing this post, I realised that to get it done properly on decent sized datasets I was going to have to write some data scraping scripts. Since I've never done that before and it might take a while to figure it out, I decided to post what I'd already done anyway. Consider it a proof of concept for now. So the definition of a specialised piece is very subjective. If we want to objec...

Saturday, 25 July 2015. Bricks as Art - Nathan Sawaya’s ‘The Art of The Brick’. Procrastination is a wonderful thing. Those of us blessed with it can always find an excuse for putting something off. The garage that needs tidying? We’ll do it “soon”. Maybe even “tomorrow’. Just not “right now”. However, to paraphrase the old Yellow Pages advert, procrastination isn’t just there for the bad things in life. Sometimes it gets in the way of stuff that you do. Actually want to do. It finished last week. Fortun...

Thursday, March 8, 2012. After two longs months away from Daddy in Colorado, we're all finally together again at home! We spent the time at my Mom's house where Jess had a GREAT time with her aunt Caitlyn (who I think had a pretty good time playing big 'sister' with her two nieces! All of the girls I worked with were so helpful. I learned so much! After finishing that, I'll now be graduating April 6th! The girls are getting so incredibly big! Melanie is almost 11 months old, and Jess turned three while w...

Just Another Librarian Blog by Dana Ouellette. Why Libguides suck, and where do we go from here. August 17, 2012. I hesitate to go into too much detail about libguides because many people have heard my talk and/or read my recent paper. Or talked to me. But in academic conversations I find the need to hold back and not always tell it like it is. And tab navigation. Seriously? Is this amazon 2004. Where do we go from here? That is the goal I am setting for myself (one i must achieve because we canceled our...
