When your issue is of a more serious nature, ie. marrige, kids, finances or future.coming to joint decisions or conclusions or guidelines can be painstakingly nightmareish.hellish! But, I still think the theory of there being more than one way to come to a happy compromise or agreement exists. What most people take as mainstream may work for most.
