Pics of a tiny moth I found in the bathroom. From top view looks like it only has hairs on one. Edge of its feelers. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Photos and notes of an amateur gardener. Green Jean: pathetic
http://greenjeane.blogspot.com/2015/08/pathetic.html
My little garden plot has not received much attention. So it's all unsightly. Not many weeds, but the plants are riddled with bug holes and a lot are lanky and falling over. Maybe from not enough sun, or because the stuff they're planted in is so fluffy, they don't find substance to hold onto with the roots? The marigold at least is lush. The only thing I can really eat is the swiss chard. This looks like a volunteer tomato plant? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Green Jean: the rose
http://greenjeane.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-rose.html
Several weeks ago I started cutting out the worst-looking bug-eaten leaves on the little rosebush in front. Noticed a new shoot had grown where flowers were cut, so I kept going and cut off all the stems that had bugholes. It looked really sparse then for a while. Now has all grown back,. But very leggy and leaning over. I think it is seeking sun. I might relocate it next year- it always leans into the driveway and snags people walking past to the front door. Green Jean: August 2015

Most people pinch the flower spikes off coleus, but I've been leaving a few on the plant. They're not at all impressive,. But a hummingbird visits them. We've seen it frequently- it even flies over to the tomato plants and I think visits the tithonia too. The other day my four-year-old saw it and she was so excited she was squealing. Mommy, come quick! I saw the hummingbird! I see the hummingbird! I caught a cold and two days in made myself some rosemary tea. Then a second mug. What are you making. The d...

Green Jean: February 2015
http://greenjeane.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Looks like I had a small ammonia spike, too. The plants look okay- most of my aponos even have new leaves coming up! So worked on my fish trap today- making holes in the sides so current can pass through and fish won't drown. It could work as a feeding station for the kuhlis, too. Most times enough food sinks (released underwater) they get some, but they've never. Gotten any bloodworms- those only float and the barbs gobble them up so fast. I also pulled up the smaller watersprite plants, leaving just th...

Green Jean: March 2015
http://greenjeane.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Unfolding cyclamen bloom- the best plant in my house right now. I had given up on my baby aloes. All brown. Pulling them up to toss in the compost, but this one actually had some roots growing. So I tucked it back in, just in case it has a slim chance of making it. Looks awful, doesn't it? My pepper seems happy with the increasing sun in the window. It keeps putting out more buds and flowers, but it's far too early to set it outside again. Here they are together, in their new pots. I would have done more...

Green Jean: garden
http://greenjeane.blogspot.com/2015/08/garden.html
Well it's still pathetic, but I pulled the weeds and mulched some and removed a lot of plants that were just doing awful. Better that they throw their lives in making compost. I'm left with four marigolds,. A few bug-eaten broccoli plants,. A volunteer vine I didn't know I had (zucchini or cuke? One stunted, leaning sunflower. And a pepper which is all leggy underneath-. Also I have a single, grand, healthy, vibrant green swiss chard plant! I cut this down and ate it in a delicious quiche.
