Being on the equator, there are none of the long days we associate with summery weather. Daybreak at 6, sunset at 6, every day of the year. Monday, May 16, 2011. May 9 - Into the Heart of Darkness. We were entering Yasuni National Park - an amazing protected area in Ecuador that boasts phenomenal diversity and lots and lots of rain. The ride was soporific, but when awake we saw a few small settlements and some evidence of oil extraction.
