The Life and Times of Jesse Wyatt Rebeck: October 2008

http://www.jwyatt29.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 27, 2008. My dad and I spent 2 nights in Vienna, 1 night in Bratislava, 2 nights in Budapest, and 2 nights in Prague. The people were very friendly and when they found out I am American, they had many questions. One word everyone seemed to know was Obama! I had a blast and learned a lot about the Hungarian roots on my dad's side and the origins of our Slovakian name (once Hrebik). We took a boat down the Danube to Bratislava, Slovakia. Street performer in Bratislava. The food was amazing.

The Life and Times of Jesse Wyatt Rebeck: March 2007

http://www.jwyatt29.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 16, 2007. Southeast Asia, business and pleasure. What an exciting trip and an amazing experience, both professionally and culturally. I guess I'm tall? One of the locals challenged us to an arm wrestling match. He spoke very little English but was able to communicate that he was a pitcher in younger days. Luckily I have guns of steel under my sleeves. Taiwan is among the most densely populated regions of the world. They don't mess around when it comes to desert in Singapore. Batu Feringgi, ...

The Adventures of Joe: November 2007

http://rinaldi81.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html

The Adventures of Joe. Tuesday, November 27, 2007. There are two major sections at the falls, Garganta del Diablo (aka the throat of the devil, the centerpiece of the park), and San Martin (the second largest set of falls). Here´s a shot of San Martin Falls. For 50 pesos you can take a boat right up to San Martin Falls. I decided to get wet and close with San Martin Falls. The Devils Throat, impossible to capture with my camera. The sides of the Devils Throat. Labels: S. America 2007 - 2008. The craziest...

The Adventures of Joe. Saturday, October 25, 2008. Antarctica: My new home. The final big day of training involved heading out onto the sea ice to check out and identify ice cracks and measure ice depth. All of this is very important when traveling across the ice to remote field camps, because swimming around here is no fun. The Dry Valleys southwest of McMurdo. Across the sea ice. The best way to travel. Me an a big ol. An iceberg trapped in the sea ice. Me in the hut. Saturday, October 11, 2008. Me in ...

The Adventures of Joe. Wednesday, May 07, 2008. Cotopaxi, the big climb to disappointment. Here are are some pics from my last climbing experience in S. America. I may not have made it up to the top due to acclimatization issues with my climbing buddies - but i still got some great sun rise photos just 200 meters away from the prize. Local fox who hangs around for climber scraps. Photo of the mountain at 4,900 meters (the summit is at 5,911 meters). The top just a few steps away. Scenery on the way down.

http://rinaldi81.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

The Adventures of Joe. Sunday, March 30, 2008. Inca Trail Day 1 and 2. If you go to Peru, you have to hike the Inca Trail to Machu. It´s the only thing that I have had to book in advance on this trip, and it forced me to travel all the way back to Cusco. It´s also extremely expensive relative to other S. American experiences. My four day hike, set me back about $420 USD. But the views are spectacular. The ruins that you visit along the way - are obviously not as impressive as Machu. Here´s the Group.

The Adventures of Joe: Hikes, Plane Crashes, New Years, Rugby, and an IceBreaker

The Adventures of Joe. Friday, February 13, 2009. Hikes, Plane Crashes, New Years, Rugby, and an IceBreaker. Here's a whole mishmash of Antarctica stuff. One of the recreational highlights in McMurdo. Is the Castle Rock Loop. A couple of buddies and I did the hike one fine Sunday afternoon, and here are the pics:. Castle Rock is the outcropping on the far right and in the middle is Mount Erebus. Closer view of Castle Rock - it looks like it'd be at home in Utah or Arizona. Another age-old tradition on th...

The Adventures of Joe. Friday, February 13, 2009. On January 12th I took a C-130 from McMurdo Station to the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. Here are some photos of the flight. View of the Transantarctic Mountains. More of the Transantarctic Mountain Range. Science is the biggest consumer of fuel at the station. These buildings are large water heaters, heating up massive quantities of water to use for drilling deep into the ice. Aside from the bone chilling temperatures the weather at the South Pole i...

The Adventures of Joe. Friday, February 29, 2008. The World's Most Dangerous Road. Here's all the bikes loaded up for the ride. Me taking a breather. Not to be arrogant, but I was in 1st place the entire way down - a few tried to pass, but it was only in vain. Bikes and buses what a great mix. A view of the pavement section. The mountains along the way. The start of the gravel. A bus coming up while we're going down. The gang hanging out on the edge. Another pic of the route. Another shot of town. I ran ...
