I was born and grew up in Tunbridge Wells. In Kent, England. There's not a lot I can remember from the early days, except 'helping' Dad pack the van when we moved house when I was three. Mum tells me I cried quite a bit. For more details please consult my sisters, both of whom are older than me, or I suppose, my parents. From 5 to about 11 years old I played football. At St James' C.E. Primary School. For the Boys Brigade. My teenage years were spent at Skinners' School. At University College London.

Hello, welcome to my webpages. These are my personal pages; my UCL homepage can be found at www.ucl.ac.uk/medphys/staff/people/bcox. There are quite a few people with the name Ben Cox. Even my close family. Has more than one. I'm the Ben Cox pictured below, and here's a short biog.

Physics of ultrasound imaging. I teach the half of the unit on ultrasound imaging taken by our medical physics undergraduates that principally covers the physics and mathematics of acoustics. I also teach part of a course on biomedical optics. My lectures are concerned with some of the various types of interaction with can occur between light and soft biological tissue. The notes for both of these courses are available as pdfs from my work pages: lecture notes.

My parents live in Tunbridge Wells within a few miles of my sister Andrea. My other siblings are slightly further away but still in the South. Here are some of the family, with the men a little in the shade. Above, clockwise from top left: Dad, me, Jono, Fiona, Grandma (who died a few years ago at a ripe old age), Mum and Claire. I will sing tenor with just about any choir that will have me, but my regular fixes are currently Thame Chamber Choir. Conducted by Duncan Aspden, and St Mary Magdalen, Oxford. Conducted by Will Dawes, where I sing on Sunday mornings. In the South (mostly). While a student at Southampton I sang with the University Chamber Choir. And Light Operatic Society. And even played my French horn in the University Symphony Orchestra. Later I very much enjoyed singing with Adrian Taylor's choir, Lauda.
