Material for New Hams. Mills County has had a rich history of Amateur Radio. First there was Hulen "Hoot" Egger in the 1940’s and 50’s. Before that year was out, three new Novices were licensed: Allen Colburn Ward, WN5FIP; Web K. Mays, WN5FIS and Sanford Musgrove, WN5FIT. Each of these hams enjoyed the hobby ever since, and all became Extra Class operators. Allen is now KA5N, Web K. They are Jack Garner K5VZZ, Ronnie Head WA5NQR, Rose Head AF5KG, Derek Pausewang KF5OVF, and Rondel Stevens N5NK. Volunteers use ECHOLINK on their internet connected computers to pass reports. The Brownwood Amateur Radio Club (BARC). Is a central-Texas-based amateur ("ham") radio organization. It is a non-profit 501(c)(3) group that offers its resources of volunteer communications to local and area communities. It also fosters interest in emergency communications and amateur radio. Meetings are normally the third Monday of each month at 1900 local time. Once a quarter an "Eating Meeting" is held where the club joins in fellowship over a meal at a local eatery.
