In this years music classes, I organised a class with the older kids (7, 8, 9 and 10 years old) to make Berimbaus. This was a real hit – the format was to get each child to come up and help me do a particular part; whether sawing, cutting, sanding, boring. Its culturally important and significant to Brazil and its history. Children can paint it.

Its based on a Brazilian “Day of the Child” and includes lots of fun activities for the kids. There were some really great things going on – a group came to the school and showed the kids how to make great toys out of recycled materials (empty plastic bottles etc) – windmills, flowers and cars.
