古事記によれば、オオクニヌシを首長とする葦原中つ国の国譲りが済み、ヒコホノニ ニギノミコト アメノホシホミミノミコトの子 が高天原から天下りをすることになった。 まず筑紫 九州島 の日向のクシフルの嶺に降り、そこから 朝日の直刺す国、夕日の日照る国 に行き着いた。 その国は 韓国に向かい、笠沙の御前 みさき にまっすぐに通じている のであった。 アタツヒメはオオヤマツミ 山の神 の次女であり、長女の イワナガヒメとともにオオヤマツミから妻にと差し出されたが、長女は醜いゆえにニニギノミコト から拒絶された。 これと似た 寿命有限説話 は南太平洋に広がっており、隼人の出自が南方であることの証左の 大きな要素とされている。 だが、イワナガ 石長 がもし 斎長 であればイワナガヒメとは 部族の祭主としての存在 ということになり、丁度かのヒミコが 鬼道に長じ 魏志倭人伝 と言われているのと重なってくる。 こう考えると 石 ではない倭人伝の イワ ウ の使い方 のほうがよりこの説話の起源に近いのではないか、南方から来た説話というよりむしろこちらから 拡散したのではないかという疑いも持たれてくる。
