Bettsyswims4heroes: October 2011

Monday, 10 October 2011. Lakeside 5k and The Great Scottish Swim 1/2 Mile and 1 Mile. It was very disheartening to be lapped on this event. My god there are some speedies out there. Well done whoever you were but next time, please lap me underwater so I don’t see you. The feeling of deflation when you get lapped is awful. 3 Redcap members receiving gold on this day, me being one of them so it was a brilliant day for all. 5k Done, Brilliant. Winner! And this time I had someone else in my age group! Head e...

Bettsyswims4heroes: Tom Durhsen's 2014 Channel Crossing
http://bettsyswims.blogspot.com/2014/11/tom-durhsens-2014-channel-crossing.html
Thursday, 6 November 2014. Tom Durhsen's 2014 Channel Crossing. What a great honour and a memorable day this was going to be. Tom had asked me in 2013 whether or not I could accompany him on some of his channel training and assist on the boat. Now in a position to be support crew but unfortunately I am now in a bloomin plaster cast! I was thrilled to be going and couldn't wait to be part of his epic journey. I had followed his progress through training and I knew he had been working bloody hard. ...Word ...

Sunday, 24 June 2012. River Arun - Littlehampton - Arundel, Brighton. 23 June 2012. I was really excited about this one. Advertised as the second fastest river in the U.K. we were all guaranteed a personal best time. 12 Redcaps headed off for Littlehampton. Some camped, some thrashed it out in a day. This was the first time I drove to an event, competed, and drove home again. And hopefully, it will be the last time. Far too tiring. With a car load of Redcaps we headed off at 10am. Naturally this soon led...

Thursday, 13 September 2012. Club La Santa - Lanzarote - September 2012. My holidays so far have always been relaxing, get away from the stress of the daily routine and just read books, sun-bathe, drink wine and eat fine food. So this one, which had been a dream wish of mine for a few years, could not have been further away from that. Here's my swim mates for the week and what a great fun bunch they were. Above My new best friend for the week was my central snorkle! Oh, how I battled with that in the ear...

Sunday, 5 January 2014. TEAM DOE do The Clacton Triathlon. This year saw the start of a new career for me. I said good bye to the busy day to day running of an accountancy practice and headed off to Ernest Doe and Sons Limited, the largest agricultural supplier in the UK. I also landed myself the role of PA to the Managing Director, Mr Colin Doe. So, if any of my usual gang need a tractor or combine, you know where to come for discount! Http:/ www.ernestdoe.com. I explained that Team Triathlons really do...

Sunday, 1 June 2014. Lakeside National Relays - September 2013. At last, a chance to swim with my son Mark. It was whilst watching my video of the 24 hour swim challenge back in 2011, that he decided enough was enough. If his ole mum can swim 24miles in 24 hours, then he's inspired to do something. He sent me a beautiful text saying how proud he was of me and that he was going to cut the fags and booze, get fit and do something energetic! I don't think I have ever been so gutted before that a race had be...

Wednesday, 6 May 2015. 2SWIM4LIFE - 2015. Tony Marshall. Swim a Mile on the Hour Every hour for 24 Hours! YIKES Time to get serious. Really, all for one night! The most uncomfortable ride ever. Surface, he’s definitely under control. He never forgot a thing. How on earth we managed to get everything in Matt’s car, I will never know. And so we set off on a somewhat very squashed and uncomfortable drive to Guildford. A MILE, AND GET OUT AGAIN – REPEAT X 24. SIMPLES! The fun was there right from the off....

Monday, 12 September 2011. Bournemouth Pier to Pier swim September 2011 the weeks ahead. No doubt the challenge will take us more than 4 hours so before this open water season is out, we had to see what it felt like. Tongie and Helen decided to call it a day at the half way point but the others soldiered on. Ben and I managed it non-wetsuit. Tough cookies! Been in the River Chelmer a few times and over to the lake at Heybridge too, so getting in plenty of variety whilst leading up to my September races.
