Saturday, November 16, 2013. We partnered with the Maasai of Makuyuni in Tanzania to build Nashipay Primary School and the first group of kindergarten students started on July 1, 2013. I just learned today that they are doing exceptionally well! According to the superintendent of schools, the children are more advanced than children of similar age in the public system. That made my heart sing! When we went shopping for textbooks and workbooks in May, we bought one workbook per child and one textbook for ...

KarenSchrey.blogspot.com: March 2012

http://www.karenschrey.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 16, 2012. Visit to a Boma. A Boma is defined as an enclosure and for sure that's what it is. The Maasai live in bomas just like this one. Notice the sharp poles that surround the enclosure. This "fence" is made from special trees with sharp thorns to prevent animals from coming into the living areas. One day Clamian asked us if we wanted to visit his Uncle's Boma. Of course we did! We knew the boma was at the foot of a distant hill - it was pretty easy to keep the target in site. She was so...

Tuesday, October 22, 2013. Good News for the Mamas! The Mamas work hard! I can see it on their faces when I look at some of the pictures we took. They have a hard life. Hauling water for kilometres twice a day, procuring food for their children on a daily basis, rounding up firewood to cook the food, building and repairing their bomas (huts), raising their children and so much more. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Main Blog: JamboCreations.blogspot.com. Our 2-woman team includes myself and:.

Wednesday, February 29, 2012. The seed is planted. Makuyuni Primary School Classroom. What can I do? How can I help? How do these kids ever get ahead in life? The headmaster, Samuel greeted us with open arms and took us on a tour of the school. Samwel discusses the shortage of textbooks. The kids held up their textbooks: Only 10 in the classroom! Samwel accepts the Schrey's gifts. Monday, February 27, 2012. We knew that the beautiful pieces we saw would be marketable, but as we took a closer look we coul...

http://www.karenschrey.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 29, 2013. Water, a human right? I was looking at the receipts I received for the construction of the foundation and it struck me that water was close to 10% of the cost. Do we even consider that as an expense when we are building something here? Don't we just turn on the tap and use as much as we want? We recently did a renovation and I don't remember ever paying for water! Thursday, April 18, 2013. One day as we were driving along, he stopped the vehicle and got out and picked what looked ...

Jambo Creations for Tanzania. Jambo means Welcome in Swahili. Thank you for being here! Monday, February 27, 2012. Safari Day 2: Makuyuni Primary School. Jambo Creations was born at the breakfast table as Karen and I chatted about how much impact small investments can have in cultures such as Tanzania's. Karen was particularly impressed with how Jackson's "Village Water Project" had enabled children to attend school. Lake Manyara National Park. Child helping his family instead of attending school. Jambo Creations for Tanzania. Jambo means Welcome in Swahili. Thank you for being here! Sunday, March 18, 2012. Still, given the restricted distribution of this material, one would think it would have greatly enhanced the economic status of the Maasai people who discovered the source. Regrettably that is not the case, reflecting the way the world works when it comes to who benefits the most from natural resources. Tanzanite is also known as zoisite, and there are apparently cheap chips and nuggets of it ...

Jambo Creations for Tanzania. Jambo means Welcome in Swahili. Thank you for being here! Sunday, February 26, 2012. Safari Day 1: Village Water Story. Our safari tour in Tanzania began with a day trip to the Arusha National Park. Our foursome piled into Warrior Trails Land Cruiser with Jackson at the wheel. The gorgeous park scenery and wildlife gave us a taste of what was to come in the following days. We were also intrigued by glimpses of daily life and culture we saw along the roads. Jet-lagged and res...

We saw countless women and children involved in this daily task. This is not a mere problem of inconvenience. The impact of access to fresh, clean water is enormous, beyond survival and disease prevention. When water is readily available, children can attend school, and women can contribute to improving the eco...Indiv...

Our joint efforts to raise funds for The Maasai Conservation Fund are starting to. Make a real difference in Maasailand as the new brick maker was set up late last week. In Clamian's words, this describes the exciting day:. We have stared today early around 8:00AM together with the SIDO manager. More than the ones I have been able to photograph.

http://jambocreations.blogspot.com/2012/03/mamas-and-warrior.html

Jambo Creations for Tanzania. Jambo means Welcome in Swahili. Thank you for being here! Tuesday, March 13, 2012. Mamas and a Warrior. This is Clamian Kitesho. He is a Maasai Warrior who sought an education (to the consternation of his father) and made a success of himself as a tourist guide and founder of Warrior Trails Safari Tours. But, he never abandoned his warrior responsibilities and his connection with his Maasai heritage. Another project is the Mamas jewelry cooperative. Your comments are welcome...
