Family and friends. Duh. Groceries. Of course there are some food products that are always going to be cheaper in France, but I think that the general cost of food is lower where I’m from. Produce is pretty much the same price in both countries, with some exceptions (Berries! Can’t wait to be able to buy blueberries or raspberries without spending almost 3 euros for a small container) but I think meat and fish is cheaper in the US, even the organic, responsible kind. I am at least hoping this is true!

We’ll always have Paris. I had the very French meal of fish n’ chips and a beer, which took the waiter by surprise. Fabien stuck to not-at-all French meal of steak and red wine. The prices were pretty reasonable for a restaurant in Paris, especially considering you could tell everything was “fait maison” and not from cans or frozen bags. I got a surprise visitor from France last week! After the initial surprise, I couldn’t help but think of the ticket cost since he only bought the ticker a few days before leaving, but he found an amazing deal. A round-trip ticket for only 500 euros! Even if you buy a transatlantic ticket a couple months out, you usually can’t find that good of a deal. Posted in Life in France as an American. What’s in a name? This all brings to me to my last name. Maybe it’s the feminist in me who wants to fight the patriarchy by saying no to having to change my identity because of marriage. Not knocking any woman that does change their name – that’s the power of feminism! 8211; but it’s not for me.
