My name is Kira Andreucci and I am a student. For my 11th birthday I asked for money to start Karing 4 Kidz, a project to help less fortunate children with kidpacks containing nonperishable, nutritious food items for the weekend. I made kidpacks for 10 kids to take home on Fridays and delivered them each week with the help of my parents. This is my sixth year with 4 Fitchburg elementary schools helping 207 children! I'm a 501c3 nonprofit organization under Blessing in a Backpack.

Karing 4 Kidz: One In Five Children Face

During the school week most of these children depend on school meals, sometimes the only ones they get. When Friday comes many of these children go home to little or no food and empty bellies for 68 hours until they return to school on Monday morning. Who will feed them this weekend? Knowing our funds would be very low as they are right now we never said, "no more kids". At a cost of about $3.00 per child our weekly amount needed was $459.00.
