Vanaf de haven van Kos-stad varen dagelijks bootjes naar de omliggende eilanden zoals Kalymnos, Nisyros, Pserimos maar ook naar Bodrum in Turkije dat er vlak tegenover ligt. Links: de overdekte markt van Kos bij het vrijheidsplein. Rechts: het treintje van Kos. De palboomlaan: deze is genoemd naar de palmbomen langs de weg en was vroeger een kanaal met water rondom het kasteel.

Het eiland van Hippocrates. Kardamena is een toeristische badplaats met 1300 vaste inwoners. Dit plaatsje ligt aan de zuidkust van Kos, op 30 km vanaf Kos- stad en 7 kilometer vanaf het vliegveld. Kardamena is vooral onder jongeren populair omdat het nacht- en uitgaansleven hier bruisend is. Kardamena ligt op de plaats waar vroeger het oude Alasarna lag. Een bijkomstige aardigheid is het feit dat je vlak bij Kos-stad bent, om het kwartier rijden er bussen naar het centrum en de haven. De prijs van een buskaartje is ongeveer €1,50 voor volwassenen, kinderen betalen halve prijs. Per fiets is wellicht nog beter, daar deze streek ook een echt fietspad heeft tot aan Kos-stad. Langs de hoofdweg bevinden zich restaurants en tavernas maar ook bars en cafetaria’s.
