History Haven Blog: Oral History Transcription Project
http://history-haven.blogspot.com/2009/10/oral-history-transcription-project.html
If one could make alive again for other people some cobwebbed skein of old dead intrigues and breathe breath and character into dead names and stiff portraits, that is history to me! Welcome to my blog! Here you'll find links to current projects and also my evolving portfolio. My main purpose is to share my experiences with LIVING HISTORY, or history brought to life in ways that teach our children and bring families together. Oral History Transcription Project. Listening in on our pioneer past. Zemira loved poetry and to sing, and was often asked to sing at public events. He was singing at the picnic held in 1847 when Brigham Young was informed that the U.S. Army was on its way to the Salt Lake Valley. Zemira and his step-brother, Gurnsey Brown, helped to bring survivors from the Willie and Martin Handcart companies to the Salt Lake Valley. It is possible he sang some of these songs himself. Zemira Palmer is my third-great grandfather. In 2010 I was given tons of information about him by two angel cousins. With their permission I share it all! The photos of Zemira's two wives were contributed by Lucile Brubaker. And her mother, Lenna Cox Wilcock. Thanks! Unless otherwise noted, the main source for this blog (including the introduction) is a history titled “ZEMIRA PALMER, 1831 – 1880, His Life and Family in Early L.D.S. Church History.”. The faith of the Palmer and Draper families, as with al...
