I visited a friend in Kilifi last year, a small coastal town, lovely in all ways with clean white beaches and friendly tuk tuk drivers. We went to the market to shop for dinner and found this bare – chested old lady, possibly in her nineties, selling vegetables and coconuts. Nothing in her demeanor suggested shame or indecency. Moses, my 6yo son recently was telling me about cocoons and I drifted off his story to one forming in my mind. How safe that word felt. I want to create my own cocoon. Warm and cozy with minimal interaction with the outside world. As if I’ve been out too long. Just the kids and I. Eat, study, read, Pray (maybe commune some) and sleep.
