Notes from a Sticky Wicket: September 2008
http://notes-from-a-sticky-wicket.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Notes from a Sticky Wicket. Tuesday, September 23, 2008. Stopped by the Velour Rope. For maybe the first time in my life I tried to stand in line for a new product release. And I was thoroughly rebuffed. T-Mobile's Web site has been dreadfully slow all day. Even their usually clued-in and cheerful customer service staff sound frazzled and not entirely together with it. It must be tough to be popular (but, folks, did you ever consider a little extra provisioning? But, I have no phone. In practical terms t...

Notes from a Sticky Wicket: Stumbling at the Door
http://notes-from-a-sticky-wicket.blogspot.com/2008/11/stumbling-at-door.html
Notes from a Sticky Wicket. Wednesday, November 12, 2008. Stumbling at the Door. I ordered my G1 about a week ago. Google said it would be available on the 10th. There was no mail delivery yesterday; it arrived in the mail today (12th). Good. I'm slightly confused because, a day after I placed the order, I got a text message from Google informing me of the plan change. Anyway. Incidentally, without the data plan working, you cannot use the phone. So, I have the phone in a completely non-functional state.

Notes from a Sticky Wicket: The G Stands for Goodbye
http://notes-from-a-sticky-wicket.blogspot.com/2008/10/g-stands-for-goodbye.html
Notes from a Sticky Wicket. Thursday, October 16, 2008. The G Stands for Goodbye. Over the past few weeks I've been getting progressively worse connection quality from Google Mail (GMail). Then, as of yesterday morning, about 24 hours ago, it stopped working entirely, giving me a 502 error. Maybe you're stretching a bit too thin, Google. Thursday, October 16, 2008. Notes from a Sticky Wicket: December 2007
http://notes-from-a-sticky-wicket.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
Notes from a Sticky Wicket. Monday, December 03, 2007. It's common in popular writing to use the Nobel Prize as a moniker for acts of genius, usually in a sarcastic way (“that certainly won't earn him a Nobel prize”). So it was with some shock that I saw an article today in the magazine CFO.com (aimed, naturally, at Chief Financial Officers) the following paragraph:. Says “Fields metal”. I realize financial folks are often quants, but it's still a curious reference. Monday, December 03, 2007. Please note...

Notes from a Sticky Wicket. Wednesday, November 21, 2007. The What in the Where? I was watching (with subtitles) Godard and Gorin's cartoonish Marxist rant,. In it is this remarkable sequence of lines, as two voices conjure up a movie:. There'll be a country. In the country, there will be a countryside. In the countryside, there will be cities. Notes from a Sticky Wicket. Sunday, April 27, 2008. No Shark Jumped; Not Even a Dorsal Fin in Sight. Notes from a Sticky Wicket: January 2008
http://notes-from-a-sticky-wicket.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
Notes from a Sticky Wicket. Sunday, January 13, 2008. Since I've been doing research related to human subjects (specifically, evaluating user expectations in computer security), I needed to complete Brown's IRB (Institutional Review Board) certification. The certification course and exam is conducted by CITI. An organization that runs these services for a host of institutions. Presumably they charge a reasonable sum for their service. Well, the CITI test was a lot like a typical computerized driving test...
