Goodbye World ~ from the Children who were … | ISLAND VIGNETTES
https://islandscribbler.wordpress.com/2014/05/27/goodbye-world-from-the-children-who-were
Goodbye World from the Children who were …. May 27, 2014. My heart is crying on account of the recent deaths of so many young children this weekend in Jamaica. It is overwhelming. I send out my condolences to the grieving families. I also grieve on account of the stories of young men being arrested for various criminal activities; stories that aired on the use and abuse of under-aged girls as sex workers etc etc etc. Am I naive to think that it is not too late for our nations’ children? When I Grow Up.

The stories we tell…. Cuso International: Karen’s Contribution. Canada ‘Dream’ Tour. August 22, 2014. It was a dream: a pipe dream some may have thought a far off mirage that wasn’t in my ‘work plan’ I thought, but a dream none the less: to get twenty-five at-risk youth from Kingston, Jamaica to Canada in order to perform at Jamaica Independence Day Celebrations and tour three cities in two provinces to sell out crowds and well. They barely had time to sleep let alone prepare a special treat with all of ...

The Brown/White Jamaican and the Right to take Offence. November 16, 2014. But some of my best friends are Brown. We shout it as a kind of censorship. We insist on it. ‘We are out of many, but we are one people! Some of my best friends are black! Or worse, the more telling version we imagine as said by a white southerner, ‘I’m not racist! Some of mah best friends is niggers.’. 2 ‘But I’m not white! Said the White Jamaican. And I’m not brown! Said the Brown Jamaican. The Right to Cause and Take Offence.
