Kate Fox | sustainable self sufficiency

Consultancy & talks. Welcome to Kate’s microholding – a place for inspiration. With an input of around 8 hours a week we produced up to 23kg of fresh organic vegetables and 38kg of fresh organic fruit in a month [Aug 2011] from 43m of growing space in the garden (which is one fifth the size of a standard allotment plot). With careful planning and design and by eating seasonally and preserving foods we did not have to buy eggs, veg, fruit, herbs, jam or chutney. Inspirational “microholding”.

Consultancy & talks. Transforming a garden into a productive microholding. We moved into our property in May 2007 having never done a garden design project before. But with a lot of enthusiasm and some know-how and practical skills we transformed two very bare spaces (one in front of the house and one behind) into thriving and diverse productive areas at a total cost of under 100. The back garden (part of the old railway embankment) when we moved in. The front garden when we moved in.

barefoot in the city: March 2013

http://www.barefootinthecity.org/2013_03_01_archive.html

Barefoot in the city. Living seasonally and sustainably. Friday, 8 March 2013. Chickens, Part 1a. The chicken house is now in place, but the ground needs levelling. Definitely a job for a drier day. Good to see how it will look in the garden though, and that we will still have space to sit and eat (just). Posted by Barefoot in Bristol. Thursday, 7 March 2013. Actually, recipes for sweet marmalade are harder to come by than you would think. Perhaps the sweet enthusiasts prefer to buy their marmalade?

Barefoot in the city. Living seasonally and sustainably. Wednesday, 6 March 2013. Chickens, Part One. So, in our tiny garden, we are going to have a go at keeping chickens. Well, bantams because they’re small to go with the small garden. Firstly I consulted a friend who keeps bantams in the city; he had a look at the garden and assured me it would be fine. Then I consulted the extremely helpful and informative Kate Fox. Posted by Barefoot in Bristol. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Chickens, Part 1a.
