Writing History ‘From Above’ or ‘From Below’? - Kat Eghdamian
http://www.kateghdamian.com/index.php/posts/writing-history
Writing History ‘From Above’ or ‘From Below’? To what extent is history a reflection of the reality of the past? Many have lamented the absence of voices of those "written about". They share stories about them rather than by them, as though they were all passive spectators in history. Such concern is, of course, valid. It is deplorable that in many cases those who are spoken (or claimed to be known) about, have not been writers of what is claimed to be known of the past. Diaspora and New Media.

Rwanda Portraits of Reconciliation. Glimpses of Perpetrators and Survivors. Not just be forced to live side by side but to discard the divisions of their past, as though they no longer left scars? This NY Times piece. Restored my faith. It shows portraits of perpetrators and survivors of the Rwandan genocide coming together in reconciliation. I am deeply moved by it. When you really think about what this means and the depths of such a struggle, it is incredibly powerful. Diaspora and New Media.

About Me - Kat Eghdamian
http://www.kateghdamian.com/index.php/about-me
I am a specialist researcher and expert on religion, forced migration, and minority rights issues. I am currently a PhD candidate at UCL (fully-funded ESRC scholar) and a consultant for the innovation agency Mensch. My research explores the role of religion in experiences of and responses to complex emergencies, with a focus on the current Syria crisis. I also love to muse about other topics including gender equality and freedom of religion and belief, so I write about them sporadically here.

Kate's Semester in Ghana
Kate's Semester in Ghana. I am spending the Spring semester of my Junior year studying at the University of Ghana. Tune in here to follow my life near the Equator. Sad news. Kate Gibb
Kate has worked as a Printmaker and Illustrator for over fifteen years from a makeshift print studio in Paddington. A silkscreen obsessive, her early studies in Printed Textiles fuelled her inherent love of colour and pattern which continually provide the basis for the majority of her work. The kind of printing she is inspired by relies on chance, hiccups and happy accidents. Technically her practice is self taught, experimental and continually evolving. 44 (0) 7855 330643.
