Chipmunks | Kategilmore's Blog
https://kategilmore.wordpress.com/2014/01/19/chipmunks
Just another WordPress.com weblog. In the late fall of 2012 I concluded that all the adorable chipmunks, who had amused and delighted me throughout the summer were dead. The bleak days of dreary November went by; I gazed sadly into a yard bereft of stripey fun; I cursed my neighbor’s cat, remembering my Shannon’s pleasure when, after an illegal trip to the yard, she returned with a mouthful of chipmunk. Enter Wikipedia on the subject of chipmunks: “They dig complex burrows with many entrances and c...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Laquo; Dog Day. What am I thinking? That if I was enjoying such a wonderful sleep, perhaps with the added delight of a fascinating dream, I would be groggy and cross if someone woke me up? Or, on the other hand, and even more surprisingly, how little some of us bring. I have occupied both categories. In time we became confirmed cat people and, whenever possible, included a cat in our too often moved household, but we never had another fanatic greeter. I can imagine ...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. You are not supposed to take anything away from a national park, right? Well, you could take beachcomber stuff–shells and stones and lovely, sea-polished glass, but these things didn’t grow. Dog Day | Kategilmore's Blog
https://kategilmore.wordpress.com/2013/08/08/dog-day
Just another WordPress.com weblog. Laquo; Where Have I Been? Saturday the rather unremarkable town of Ashland, Massachusetts hosted a remarkable event. Subtitled “Dog Day”, the Ashland Farmers Market invited its potential shoppers to bring their dogs and, if they wished, to participate in a dog parade. And answered that, among other things, dogs are important to dogs. This would have been clear yesterday in Ashland. What a joyous festival of canine meetings and greetings! I went to Antioch College in the fifties- a gloomy time in many places, but not at Antioch, where intellectual curiosity, personal freedom, and comfortably left-wing politics were the norm. It was also the home of several remarkable theatre programs, and there I lost my heart to the stage and, not incidentally, to writing first for the stage, later for other venues. On the side, I played french horn and violin in the Springfield, Ohio Symphony and studied both violin and horn with private teachers. In th...

Payday lenders: We should all think about the difficult position the Tories are in. Whatever the Tories would have you believe, poverty is on the up. Everywhere you turn there are desperate stories of evictions, hungry children and food banks. One of the consequences of this growing population of desperate people, is that investors have moved in. Where there’s desperation, there’s profit. The Tory record is extremely different. In 2012 significant cuts to the financial inclusion fund were announced, incl...
