I trained as a glassmaker at Buckinghamshire College, graduating with a BA (Hons) Three Dimensional Design. I then began to research different ways of glassmaking relevant to jewellery scale and was introduced to flame-working in a master-class at the Glass Biennale in Stourbridge last summer. I found this technique to be the most direct and exciting way of sculpting glass, akin to drawing with a flame.

The starting point is usually combining colours for the firing of the glass, playing with composition and exploiting the subtleties achieved at different temperatures. The silver is worked to fit each fused piece afterwards, looking to make sense of the form. (contact me for commissions).

My approach to creating jewellery begins with observing natural structures, in particular the anatomy and growth patterns of plants. The nature of flameworking means that the subtle variations found in nature can be worked through quickly to build up an encyclopaedia of forms. I take great delight in the character of a form and its variations, and the different responses to materials and textures that occur when we wear jewellery.
