Life on the southern edge of the steppe. Does “vuvuzela” sound dirty to anybody but me? I’m currently munching on döner kebab in City Café, a 24-hour Turkish restaurant/disco in the center of Shymkent. Tes (my sitemate) and I are here for a crazy weekend in the big city before heading to our friend Jon’s village to help him with his summer camp. So far said big weekend has mostly consisted of swimming, going to Madlen’s as often as possible, and ogling the condiments in Ramstore (salsa! July 4, 2010.
