Katharine Lunn

October 20, 2016. I’m having a full-on quarter-life crisis. Over the course of one month (admittedly, it was way back in August and September), I got married and handed in my master’s dissertation. I’ve been both working and in education for a very long time and I feel that my education days are behind me. I’ve also changed my name. I feel different. Should I really set up a blog? Should I give up writing this novel because it doesn’t seem exciting enough? So I’m glad it’s here. September 6, 2016. By Yrs...

Thoughts on Sara Pascoe’s Animal – Katharine Lunn

https://katharinelunn.wordpress.com/2016/07/11/thoughts-on-sara-pascoes-animal

Thoughts on Sara Pascoe’s Animal. July 11, 2016. This book is amazing #bookstagram #amreading #sarapascoe. A post shared by Kate Lunn-Pigula (@katelunnpigula) on. Jun 26, 2016 at 3:30am PDT. I have neglected my blog in the past month. For the usual blog not-posting reasons. Life things, business, general anger and inability to read due to the shit-storm that was the EU referendum… But here we are, now. I finished. Of our mammal and reptile brains, so we don’t always use it. From my now seemingl...And the...

Thoughts on Baby X by Rebecca Ann Smith – Katharine Lunn

https://katharinelunn.wordpress.com/2016/08/25/thoughts-on-baby-x-by-rebecca-ann-smith

Thoughts on Baby X by Rebecca Ann Smith. August 25, 2016. Is an intriguing novel. I must admit I find clinical intelligent thriller-y type things interesting (see my obsession with House. But this genre, if you can call it that, is rarely coupled with emotional intelligence. Baby X is a great achievement just from the outset: it’s an intelligent novel with a heart. And why is it called X? There is a also thriller aspect with a troublesome ex-boyfriend of Alex’s; this builds throughout the novel, which is...

Motherhood, Creativity and Fairy Tales: The Forgotten and the Fantastical 2. April 17, 2016. April 17, 2016. I just read a story. With this in mind, then, I move onto the second collection of ‘modern fables and ancient tales’,. The Forgotten and the Fantastical 2. 8216;Lilasette’ also makes important use of a mirror, as do the stories ‘Mirror Mirror’ by Laura Kayne and ‘How Women Came to Love Mirrors’ by Hannah Malhotra. Thoughts on New Books by Yrsa Sigurdardottir and Michael Hughes – Katharine Lunn

https://katharinelunn.wordpress.com/2016/09/06/thoughts-on-new-books-by-yrsa-sigurdardottir-and-michael-hughes

Thoughts on New Books by Yrsa Sigurdardottir and Michael Hughes. September 6, 2016. I’ve recently read a couple of new books and thought I’d cover both of them in one post. Both are multilayered, covering different stories and viewpoints, and they fit together fairly well. I’m becoming more accustomed to reading crime. I enjoy it. Why Did You Lie. Why Did You Lie. A book I enjoyed less was. It’s ambitious, taking place in four different eras: in 1999 when a computer programmer tries to fix the Mill...

A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler – readwritehead

https://readwritehead.wordpress.com/2015/03/30/a-spool-of-blue-thread-by-anne-tyler

March 30, 2015. A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler. My trusty notebook informs me that the last Anne Tyler novel I read was An Amateur Marriage in 2005. For many years I had been an ardent fan, reading everything she wrote, as she wrote it. Then I stopped. It wasn’t a conscious decision: I had liked An Amateur Marriage well enough. Tyler writes about family life and relationships, about the seemingly mundane, about you and me, about our neighbours and friends –. This is a family saga in the grand tradi...

Crooked Heart by Lissa Evans – readwritehead

April 17, 2015. Crooked Heart by Lissa Evans. It is Friday afternoon, time to write my thoughts on another Bailey’s longlist title, so I open my trusty notebook at the relevant page and I find…nothing. Not a word. Only a heading,. Crooked Heart by Lissa Evans. May indeed be moving and delightful, but it is far funnier and blacker than these hastily plucked adjectives imply. It is at this point in the proceedings that I tend to say However. Yet for me there are no Howevers. The plot rattles along,...Being...

Outline by Rachel Cusk – readwritehead

https://readwritehead.wordpress.com/2015/04/02/outline-by-rachel-cusk

April 2, 2015. Outline by Rachel Cusk. And so I picked up. And found myself sitting on a plane next to a small fat man who proceeded to tell me about his wives, his children, his money and his yacht. Already I was hooked. My mother once admitted that she used to be desperate for us to leave the house for school, but that once we’d gone she had no idea what to do with herself and wished that we would come back. The narrator continues with her story and when she has finished Angeliki says,. 8211; One’s exi...

April 13, 2015. Personal and Shadow Bailey’s Panel Shortlists. A fortnight later I returned home to freezing temperatures, an empty fridge and three weeks in which to read an entire longlist. I worked out that if I followed a strict routine I could manage 15 books, but 20 would be impossible. My Bailey’s Prize Shortlist. Outline – Rachel Cusk. Elizabeth is Missing – Emma Healey. How to be Both – Ali Smith. The Shore – Sara Taylor. A Spool of Blue Thread – Anne Tyler. How to be both – Ali Smith. I think m...

The Life of a Banana by PP Wong – readwritehead

https://readwritehead.wordpress.com/2015/04/07/the-life-of-a-banana-by-pp-wong

April 7, 2015. The Life of a Banana by PP Wong. The Life of a Banana. And so begins a year in Xing Li’s life that includes a giant tortoise, a trip to Singapore, a meeting with a ‘dead’ relative, illicit trading, a disappearance, euthanasia, exam cheating, an extreme act of violence, a deal, an expulsion and several hospitalizations. Xing Li regularly mispronounces words, and while it is amusing the first time she mangles a composer’s name, the ‘joke’ is repeated many times and soon becomes irritating.

History behind the project. Send me your Wishes. The project is simple. I ask of you, anonymous public,. To provide me with your wishes. What do you desperately want in life? Do you want to get out from under debt? To bring your husband back from war? To let your grandma have peace in death? To stop the suffering of a nation? Just another WordPress.com site. How have you been organizing educational information thus far (in your career as a pre-service teacher)? This blog has been a great organizational tool for all of the electronic resources that I have been exposed to this semester. Often times, when I hear about a book or a program that I like, I jot it down in my Lilly agenda book, because I carry it everywhere with me and I like having my ideas handy! Some tools for organization that are covered within our textbook are:.
