About
http://www.katherinemartinelli.com/about
Katherine Martinelli is an internationally published journalist and award-winning photographer who has contributed to publications on three continents. More than simply cooking, I love making food. People. I love the way that food connects folks, and it’s the ability to nourish others, both physically and emotionally, that fulfills me. I’m slightly more attuned to the toddler palate now than I used to be, but fresh, healthy food is still at the center of my cooking philosophy. Puff Pastry at Brunch.

Shepherd’s Pie with Cauliflower White Bean Mash. Posted on May 18, 2016 3 comments. I have been meaning to post this recipe – which is a follow-up to my cauliflower and white bean mash recipe – for ages, but as the weather started to warm up I thought maybe I’d missed my chance. But as the unseasonable chill sets in and it rains intermittently, it’s actually the perfect time to enjoy shepherd’s pie. This British dish is warm and comforting, but not. Bulgur Salad with Pomegranate Molasses. Bulgur Salad with Pomegranate Molasses. Posted on Jun 19, 2012 17 comments. Nearly two months later, I still can’t stop thinking about our trip to Istanbul. Check out the article I wrote about it here. And another related one here. If you’re in Istanbul, I can’t recommend taking a market tour or cooking class enough. What better way to experience the culture than through its food? Bulgur Salad with Pomegranate Molasses. This vegan bulgur salad with tart pomegranate...
A Culinary Tour of Tel Aviv

A Culinary Tour of Tel Aviv. A Culinary Tour of Tel Aviv. Posted on Apr 3, 2011 9 comments. I may live in Be’er Sheva, but since moving to Israel in September I’ve been a frequent visitor to Tel Aviv. It has quickly become one of my favorite cities in the world – it has the buzz and sophistication of New York, the pace and cafe culture of a European city, and soft white sand beaches on the Mediterranean. What could be bad? For a culinary tour of Tel Aviv that culminated in a cooking class at her home.

Kitchen Riffs: Tuna Noodle Casserole
http://www.kitchenriffs.com/2012/02/tuna-noodle-casserole.html
Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Corn Flakes Top this 1950s Classic. Many home cooks in the 1950s were mad for the new convenience foods — canned this or powdered that. Although many of these items had become available earlier in the 20th century, they reached their zenith of popularity in the 50s. Tuna Noodle Casserole was the quintessential 50s dish. It required boxed noodles! And a topping of boxed cereal! How wonderful— you could make it without any. And amazingly enough, it was also a pretty good dish.
Kitchen Riffs: The Last Word Cocktail

Wednesday, September 5, 2012. The Last Word Cocktail. This “Lost” Drink Is a Favorite with Aficionados. The Last Word Cocktail. Has had an erratic history — which is fitting, I suppose, for drink that was born (surreptitiously) during Prohibition. It was created sometime in the 1920s at the Detroit Athletic Club — by a vaudeville performer, not a bartender — but didn’t become particularly popular (maybe because of that bathtub gin they used? Saw the recipe while flipping through Saucier’s Bottoms Up.
Israel Food Tours: Olive Harvest 2010
http://savorisrael.blogspot.com/2010/10/olive-harvest-2010.html
Sunday, October 10, 2010. I made olive oil for the first time this past weekend, and its been a bittersweet experience. Picking olives all day and seeing the fruits of this labor in the form of truly incredible olive oil is an exceptionally gratifying experience. On the other hand, you can only really do it once every two years. Perhaps that makes it more special, but it really does suck to have to wait too. http://savorisrael.blogspot.com/2011/04/bisli-has-arrived-in-portland-oregon.html
Saturday, April 2, 2011. Bisli has arrived in Portland, Oregon! My mom recently called me, quite excitedly, to tell me that the local Albertsons is carrying kosher for pesach Bisli. In advance of Pesach. I know that stores in New York and LA carry Bisli. But I was definitely surprised to hear that it has now reached Portland, let alone the kosher for pesach version. Anyways, glad to hear one of the world's greatest snacks (you can see in the pictures that Bamba. Bisli has arrived in Portland, Oregon!

Our home has adopted a no-eating-outside-on-weekdays policy. Since it is only in its second week, felt bad breaking it so early on. After all the resolution may grumble and complain about an early death at my hands. Not going that guilt ridden route! Wraps with spicy chicken filling. It is very much like the Mexican taco. Thai-style Chicken Salad | Bitchin Camero
http://www.bitchincamero.com/2011/08/thai-style-chicken-salad
August 30, 2011 at 11:23 am. Oh, hello there readers! I recommend making it next time you’ve got leftover grilled chicken – you can skip the lemongrass marinade if you can’t find it or if you’ve got leftovers. I seriously can’t wait to make another big batch of it soon since the first batch disappeared in one day. What can I say? We like to eat around here…. 1 1/5 lbs. boneless, skinless chicken (I used breast and thighs). 1/4 cup vegetable oil. 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper. 1 small cucumber, diced.

It’s just two short weeks until Memorial Day, the official kick-off for picnics, BBQs and pool parties. All you need now is the perfect drink recipe. Check out the Miami New Times Blog Watch post featuring yours truly! If you’re feeling boozy, I’d add a few shots of tequila. Feel free to experiment with other kinds of booze and let me know how it goes! 2 cup cold water.

Katherine Martin Lampwork | handmade glass beads and jewellery
Handmade glass beads and jewellery. Happy to be back! So, I haven’t been doing much lampworking recently (long story, involving a change of career). But, I made a return this weekend, at Chedworth Roman Villa’s craft fair. It was a great weekend, the weather was lovely, much to everyone’s relief! Lovely weather at Chedworth.
