Tuesday, January 11, 2011. This is the first step of my painting. I use cobalt blue and winsor violet as an underpainting for all of the shadow shapes in the petals. I tend to use the violet in the center of the flowers where there will eventually be a yellow color. The violet makes a beautiful shadow under yellow, avoiding the brown you can sometimes get when trying to create yellow shadows. I titled this painting "Arrival" 36" x 15". It was my first painting done while living here in Maui.

I paint from photos I've taken while in Hawaii and in California. Sometimes I combine many photos to create my composition. Lately, the focus of my painting has been tropical flowers and still life. I try to capture the grace and beauty of my subjects, and hope viewers of my paintings can share in the happiness they bring me. My goal is to make my paintings look alive. I've been teaching watercolor classes and workshops. I've been submitting my paintings to juried watercolor exhibitions.

Monday, August 18, 2014. Another one for the aquatics! Ladies for the Line Up". I started out with this group of swimmers and gradually developed the brushstrokes that appealed to me. It felt more water-like to have the movement of the strokes down the paper. The grouping also evolved into a more cropped version which helps keep the eye focused on the swimmers in the middle.
