Bali

Thursday, August 17, 2006. At the last minute and under much duress, I booked a flight to Bali to escape the drudgery that is summer in Taipei. What a wonderful decision! My vacation was relaxing, luxurious and indulgent (while still very affordable). Here is a quick story of my time for Mom, Dad, Carole, the cousins and anyone else who's interested! Bali

http://www.kathleeninbali.blogspot.com/2006/08/unique.html

Thursday, August 17, 2006. This is one of the very traditional "offerings" that I found everywhere in Bali (on beaches, in front of homes and businesses). Beautiful. This is the surfer beach "Dreamland." It was interesting to watch, but I didn't go near the water. This was my hotel in Kuta. It was a clean, simple and fun kind of resort. I decided to try a surfing class! Posted by Kathleen : 7:53 PM.

Thursday, August 17, 2006. At Carole's suggestion, I had to stay one night at Villa Balquisse. It was stunning, luxurious and close to my favorite beach, Jimbaren. The beach was one of the few really empty beaches I visited and the sand was packed enough that I could walk easily (I never realized how hard it is to walk when the sand is so soft you sink with every step! I'm not a fish person at all: dead, alive or for dinner, but it actually was pretty good grilled over coconut shells and covered in spices.

Bali

http://www.kathleeninbali.blogspot.com/2006/08/dance.html

Thursday, August 17, 2006. At Ulu Watu they performed a traditional Balinese dance at sunset. Instead of instruments, there was a 70 man "choir" who chanted to different beats. The story told about a stolen princess and a magical white monkey who defeated the fire (by kicking it around) when they try to burn him alive. Interesting to say the least. Thursday, August 17, 2006. The monkeys were really smart and slightly scary, though. They are "holy" monkeys and no one is allowed to touch them (or get stolen hats back from them! You can see the temple itself on the very edge of the cliff (the main part looks like a big tree in this picture). Posted by Kathleen : 8:05 PM.

Wandering Observations: October 2008

http://kathleenincanada.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 15, 2008. Having completed my hat and afghan, I feel I've earned the right to display some pictures. I'm especially proud of my quick knit hat (a design I adapted) The best part is, it's just a rectangular square you knit then fold in half and sew up (so that the points will cover your ears)! If you think those colours are pretty, have a look at my new yarn (for the fair isle hat-scarf-mitten extravaganza)! Tuesday, October 14, 2008. Saturday, October 11, 2008. The Chill Has Set In.

Wandering Observations: Almost Finished

http://kathleenincanada.blogspot.com/2009/04/almost-finished.html

Monday, April 27, 2009. Only a weekend left in Edmonton! As for the flu pandemic, it's not on my mind at the moment, and I don't think I'll be wearing a mask on the plane. I am glad that I thought to buy that Nectarine Mint antibacterial hand gel. When I was last at Bath and Body Works, though! Me, Sabine, Amy, Bonnie and Jun. Nice thing about all the hard work this semester is that it paid off! And, since I don't think anyone from the UofA. I got an A. Be-doing" afternoon by watching Funny Face. Last ra...

Wandering Observations: Calgary Tower

http://kathleenincanada.blogspot.com/2009/04/calgary-tower.html

Monday, April 27, 2009. Last set of overdue pictures from the weekend in Calgary. We had a gorgeous dinner in the revolving restaurant atop Calgary Tower. The longer days of spring meant that we arrived in sunlight at 8pm and watched it set before we left a few hours later. And crème brûlée for dessert! Obviously that's my friend Amy in the picture with me, she's one of the few students who started the program full-time in the fall with me. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Last Week of Classes.

Wandering Observations: May 2009

http://kathleenincanada.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 29, 2009. Well, it's been a while since my last post, I know. Jill suggested that I blog, though, so here it is! My posts may be sporadic over the summer just because I'm in Nova Scotia now and the majority of my readers are probably hearing my news from me or via the family gossip line. Here are some pictures from my week in Ontario, including brunch with the family, days wandering the Art Gallery and the Royal Ontario Museum, and Niagara Falls with Louise. My Time in Taiwan. My Travels in Bali. My Travels in Hong Kong. My Travels in Europe. My Travels in Kazakhstan. Our Trip to Penghu. What's the Weather in Sydney? Thursday, May 22, 2008. I've been waiting to put up these pictures and movies. This was one of those great travel moments that was so genuine. After I ruled out the bullfights, I was wondering how to spend my Sunday evening. My guidebook said there was traditional dancing in the square. The Sardana. Posted by Kathleen @ 6:50 AM.

My Time in Taiwan. My Travels in Bali. My Travels in Hong Kong. My Travels in Europe. My Travels in Kazakhstan. Our Trip to Penghu. What's the Weather in Sydney? Monday, May 26, 2008. Lucerne is a beautiful old city on a lake, famous for 600 year old bridges. Our passes included boat tickets, so we took a round trip along the lake by the mountains. Some of the houses were beautiful, especially this little castle. If you look closely at the right side, there's even a miniature cathedral!

Sunday, June 7, 2009. Dad and I were walking along the waterfront in Halifax this afternoon, and it was beautiful enough to take a picture of, so I guess I have something to blog! And while I'm at it, here are some favourite photos of hummingbirds I took last time I was at Grammie's house. I have to say, you really need to have a lot of patience and a good chunk of free time to get a clear shot. Those buggers move fast! Friday, May 29, 2009. Hong Kong

Wednesday, May 10, 2006. A Weekend in Hong Kong. Posted by Kathleen at 5:53 PM. For those who don't know, I really don't care for Chinese food. Overall, I find it too greasy and either bland or fishy. Eating only Chinese food for a whole day always leaves me craving a cheeseburger and chocolate cake. But, with local guides, Amber and I were committed to eating local cuisine. We started with dim sum (the second picture)-. The bathroom was the most beautiful I've ever seen.
