London Calling

Thursday, May 29, 2008. I've been meaning to post my Farewell to London post for a while, but for various reasons haven't done so. at last, here it is. I left London on April 28, after three and a half years there. I feel like I've been in extended mourning for its loss for almost a year, ever since I decided that the move to the US, and marriage to Dave, was the next stage in my life. the drive to Heathrow, past so many dear landmarks, did nothing to assuage that. May the road rise up to meet you. Even ...

London Calling: Smoke and fire

http://www.kathryninlondon.blogspot.com/2008/03/smoke-and-fire.html

Tuesday, March 04, 2008. I got off the number 30 bus at the head of the Narrow Way last week, just where a team of two men were re-laying the red surface of the bus lane. In the fading light the truck seemed full of flames, and the two men conjured smoke and steam as they nonchalantly poured the boiling mass onto the road and raked it out. Maybe if you search, you can still find some charcoalburners! I'm trying to place your pictures in the map in my head, but I can't. By "head" do you mean the top?

London Calling: July 2007

http://www.kathryninlondon.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 30, 2007. Standing in Piccadilly the other day, waiting for a 38 bus which was SUPPOSED to come every 6 minutes (had been waiting more than 40). Look down that street without seeing ghosts. It's still one of the best and most magical things I have ever seen. Tuesday, July 17, 2007. View from my room. Saturday, July 14, 2007. Farewell to Lansdowne Drive; hello to The Manse. It's a little bit like "The King is dead. long live the King! There's even a vege patch! I turned this -. Of course, all...

London Calling: November 2007

http://www.kathryninlondon.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, November 22, 2007. Where else but Scotland? Friday, November 16, 2007. We've had a cold snap here, waking to frosty lawns and streaky skies two mornings running now. Both days have been beautifully sunny, but have stayed cold throughout; it's certainly time for gloves to come out of the backs of drawers, and last night I finally turned on my radiator. Saturday, November 10, 2007. The Hackney Postcards empire is slowly expanding; below is the latest addition to the line:. I hadn't planned to go ...

London Calling: What is the Matrix?

http://www.kathryninlondon.blogspot.com/2008/01/what-is-matrix.html

Sunday, January 27, 2008. What is the Matrix? Well, whatever it is, it's located somewhere in Bishopsgate. God does use humans as chess pieces! Monday, January 28, 2008 9:21:00 pm. That's great - how long till we see that in a video clip? Tuesday, January 29, 2008 6:21:00 am. The wool pulled over all of our eyes? Friday, February 01, 2008 4:02:00 am. A Lone Star State of Mind: October 2010

http://kathrynintexas.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

A Lone Star State of Mind. Sunday, 31 October 2010. We were invited to a Pumpkin Carving Party shortly before Halloween - the first time I've ever carved a pumpkin! So for those who have likewise been sadly denied, here's a step-by-step guide. 1 Choose your pumpkin. Make sure it is not bigger than you. 2 Cut out the top (or the base, if you're tricksy, preciousss). 3 Remove the gunky plug of pumpkin. 4 and place in a tub (along with all the other innards) so that the seeds can later be roasted and eaten.

I've been looking for an excuse to post this video - both the song and the visuals just make me happy. I hope they make you happy too. Friday, 24 December 2010. A Lone Star State of Mind. Tuesday, 31 August 2010. Take me out to the ball game. Last night I went to my first baseball game! As far as baseball goes, we hear we had a quick game - all done in just over two hours! And the Astros won - which apparently they have not been doing, as a general rule - so maybe we brought them some indirect beginners' luck! Things to do in Houston. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). http://kathrynintexas.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

A Lone Star State of Mind. Saturday, 3 July 2010. Come into my parlour. I've always wanted a library, but of course that's a bit of a pipe dream in this day and age! This seemed to be the closest we could get - converting what is supposed to be a formal dining room into a library nook. The builders came on New Year's Eve and put in the shelves - but it took me this long to post the pictures because the final touch, the water lilies, was finally just hung last weekend. A Lone Star State of Mind: March 2011

http://kathrynintexas.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

A Lone Star State of Mind. Monday, 28 March 2011. In the late summer last year, we were driving home one evening and, stopped at the lights going into our neighbourhood, I was looking idly about me. Suddenly -. I see a pig! I said to Dave, half jokingly, and we both tried to get a closer look in the half-light of dusk. Concluding I'd made a mistake, and seen nothing more than a dog, we went home and I didn't think about it any further. And it was lucky we did that, as we never saw him again after that da...

A Lone Star State of Mind. Friday, 8 April 2011. Look who moved in just down the road! Our spottings are all animals - the mini-donkeys; some even stumpier and shaggier ponies who live in a tiny bit of forest by the side of the road, and even some llamas, one of whom has ridiculously fluffy legs. There may be photos later; in the meantime use your imagination. Sunday, 3 April 2011. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Continues where London Calling. Having ONE slice of Christmas fruit cake left. Wednesday, September 1, 2010. Things I don't want to forget:. 1 Walking past King's College after class as the sun is right behind it and thinking: "I'm in Cambridge.". 2 The day I realized that I could write a 1500-word paper in one sitting. 3 Sitting in the rocking chair in the McLaverty's guest room and realizing that the more I read Shakespeare, the easier it gets. 4 Big Ben lit up at night. 6 Running and walking through Regent's Park. 7 Falstaff at the Globe. 8 The taste of Galaxy chocolate. 19 My c...

Kathryn’s Namibian Adventure. Just another VSO volunteer experience. For some reason, over the past four weeks, pretty much everything electrical I own has given up on life. In fact, in one 24 hour period my camera, watch, phone and car packed up. Since then the Ipod has has gone to Ipod heaven oh, and some ruthless individual sold my small collection of eggshell jewellery. Would I ever have experienced a moment like that if I had continued working for the Post Office? Comments : 4 Comments. Last weekend...

Semester in Stockholm

As you already know, I'm Kathryn, a 20 year old student from Bowdoin College where I am an Economics major/Classical Studies minor, but am studying abroad this Fall at Stockholm University in Sweden. Tuesday, December 2, 2008. I can't believe it. I'll be back home in less than two weeks. What happened? Over the course of this trip there have been somethings I've made a mental note of that I'm excited to do when I get home. Here are some of them:. A) Say hi to my family. obviously. E) Sleep in my BIG bed.
