I look to ancient ceramics and folk pottery for the humility and pleasantness I see in the forms and careful, sophisticated surface decoration. Pots from Ladi Kwali and Nigerian folk pottery from Abuja Training Center implore me to question my perspective on studio pottery today. I want to create pots that cause people to question their assumptions about the sophistication of and values embodied by the simple things we surround ourselves with.

The life of a Schmidt « All you ever needed to know
The life of a Schmidt. All you ever needed to know. Meet the Schmidt’s. Did you know that I have a background in color theory? The point being…I can pick a color to put on anyone else’s house, any business around the globe, yet struggle with my own. I look a mess, I’ve officially created myself ‘painting clothes’ and I’m not sure the ...I’m not the onl...

Katie Drew & Design | Art and Graphic Design
Katie Drew and Design. Art and Graphic Design. April 23, 2011. For the last seventeen months I’ve been planning my wedding. Oh a girls dream! Well… Not exactly. I never really thought about my wedding until the engagement day arrived, not even as a kid. (Unless of course you include those days when I swore the only way I was even going to have a wedding was if I got to wear a black wedding dress.). Sorry there is no real “meat” in this post (links, pictures. Etc.), but I like to keep ...Pictures and link...

Acceptance for all. Seeing the world through my daughters' eyes. Learning to Let Go. April 8, 2015. Giving up control is something that I have always struggled with and that may be why God gave me 4 very independent girls: to teach me a lesson:) There is the obvious… letting them bring an art project to school that actually looks like they made it, because they did, letting them take control of the steering wheel (currently teaching daughter #2 to drive! March 4, 2015. It hasn’t been that long! Anna is A...
