From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent: You can take the girl out the city...
http://karenwhitby.blogspot.com/2007/08/you-can-take-girl-out-city.html
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent. Wednesday, August 01, 2007. You can take the girl out the city. My travels have now brought me to Melbourne, the first real city I've been to for a good 9 months. Admittedly I've been to Ruteng. Darwin and Adelaide, but for one reason or another none of them really felt like cities. But Melbourne does and I'm loving it! It has the decadance. The style, the noise and the anonymity. Hope you are having a fantastic time, being your other self. Mum and Dad said. I am t...
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent: How ya' doin'?
http://karenwhitby.blogspot.com/2007/08/how-ya-doin.html
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent. Monday, August 20, 2007. Walk into any shop, bar or restaurant; board any train, plane or bus in Australia or New Zealand and you wont be greeted. With 'hello' or 'how can I help you? But 'how ya doin. Now maybe I'm a very restrained English. Person, but I struggle with this. In my opinion 'how ya doin. Is a question that can be asked between people who know each other, or at a push between people who plan to know each other and is a genuine question. Oz; sweet - nz.
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent: Skills for life
http://karenwhitby.blogspot.com/2007/08/skills-for-life.html
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent. Monday, August 13, 2007. When I told NFER I wanted to work abroad for a year they thought that it would be great professional development - that I would develop new research skills. Personally, I thought that spending a year abroad would be great for my social skills - that I would develop new people skills. So snowboarding can now be added to the list of skill that I've developed this year and will keep with me for the rest of my life. View my complete profile.
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent: The sky at night
http://karenwhitby.blogspot.com/2007/08/sky-at-night.html
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent. Wednesday, August 29, 2007. The sky at night. One of the less obvious differences (until you think about it) about my life here in the southern hemisphere, compared to my home in the northern hemisphere, is the night sky. Now I'm not the worlds greatest astronomer, but back home I could recognise the basic constellations: The Plough., Orion. Etc But since leaving the UK last November I haven't seen a single one of them. Is the M ilkyw. Incidentally, four years late...
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent: Blondy does Oz
http://karenwhitby.blogspot.com/2007/07/blondy-does-oz.html
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent. Tuesday, July 03, 2007. My time in Indonesia is drawing to a close. I have a ticket to Australia booked for next week, but more significantly I have a ticket booked back to the UK. I still wont be home until October, but up until now I have only had a one-way ticket. I hadn't realised how unsetteling it was not to know when I would be coming home, but it feels nice to know when exactly I will be coming back to Blighty - even if it is in the middle of winter. Well y...
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent: Homeward bound
http://karenwhitby.blogspot.com/2007/10/homeward-bound.html
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent. Tuesday, October 16, 2007. I am on my way home. From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent: Life through a lense
http://karenwhitby.blogspot.com/2007/07/life-through-lense.html
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent. Saturday, July 21, 2007. Life through a lense. I've always been a reluctant photographer, preferring to get copies of other peoples pics than to take my own. This reluctance is not (just) a result of laziness, but more a slight embarrassment - the crassness of capturing a moment and sealing it in a little box for eternity. Mudsely beach, UK. Angel Island, Indonesia. Mount Connor, Australia (about 60km from Ularu). Http:/ mundesleypc.norfolkparishes.gov....Subscribe...
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent: No news is good news
http://karenwhitby.blogspot.com/2007/09/no-news-is-good-news.html
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent. Friday, September 07, 2007. No news is good news. I thought, before I went away, that I would miss the 24 hour news culture that we have in the west: waking up to the Today Program on Radio 4; keeping an eye on the BBC news feed while at work; watching the 10 o'clock news before bed. But I haven't really missed it at all. Or, in my case, look back over a year of missed news and has anything really happened at all? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I am taking a y...
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent: 4.28 million + 5
http://karenwhitby.blogspot.com/2007/09/428-million-5.html
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent. Thursday, September 13, 2007. Well, I have finally made it to Sydney - the last stop on my Australian adventure and the penultimate stop on my global adventure. Although Australia has a population of 20 million, around a quarter of Australians live in or around Sydney. As I have witnessed over the last two months the centre of Australia is deserted with all the major connorbations lining the coast. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I am taking a year’s unpa...
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent: A sense of history
http://karenwhitby.blogspot.com/2007/10/sense-of-history.html
From Our (Former) Flores Correspondent. Tuesday, October 09, 2007. A sense of history. China is old. The Chinese had mastered fire by 600.000bc, a written language and the paper to write it on by 2000bc and a common currency and system of weights and measures by 200bc. Furthermore, much of the evidence and artifacts from this time are still preserved today in China's modern cities and provinces. I am sure China has changed a huge amount since it opended its doors to the West 30 years ago. Next year i...

Dreams, Whimsies, and Simple Truths | Just a Kentucky girl, with a big imagination, serving an even bigger God!
Dreams, Whimsies, and Simple Truths. Just a Kentucky girl, with a big imagination, serving an even bigger God! June 19, 2014. Why do we fight God when He is the author and creator; He knows what is best for us, far better than we know for ourselves. I am so guilty of saying God I trust youbut here are the pieces I want you to put together. Do I not realize that God is the owner of the storehouses? What inside of me has latched on and said He cannot be trusted? How can I be prideful? Choose Jesus, Choose ...
