Pumpkin Spice | Vintage Belle
https://avintagebelle.wordpress.com/2014/11/13/pumpkin-spice
Creating pretty, elegant clothes with vintage dress patterns. November 13, 2014. This project came about as the result of me being helpful to a fellow sewer and blogger. She needed to clear out her stash and who was I to let perfectly good fabric pass me by? Evie from Pendle Stitches. The chosen pattern for the jacket, Butterick 7315 was added to my pattern collection earlier in the year for 50p from a charity shop in Tewkesbury. Just 50p! Providing structure – fusible interfacings. I really like this ja...

Tea Cosy
https://rememberinggravity.wordpress.com/2014/07/16/tea-cosy
Wednesday 16 July, 2014. Monday 15 February, 2016. Tea cosies are an essential part of making proper English tea. And I’m only saying this with my tongue slightly in my cheek. If you’re making it in a pot (which you should be,) then it will need something to keep it snuggly while it brews. There is nothing worse than pouring a cup of tea and finding that it has just dipped below the optimum drinking temperature. Which I followed to a tea (haha) except that I only made one pompom (I’m impatient.). Fill in...

Independent Pattern Designer / Seamstress. Category Archives: My Projects. An archive of all of the sewing, knitting and craft projects I have worked on. How well do you research your sewing projects before you get sewing? This make really got me thinking about how much research and project planning people do before starting a new sewing project. My methods are usually to check on sites like Kollabra. I wish I could be more relaxed! The post even says:. A mystery dressmaking fabric from Abakhan. 4 fabric...

Not really a llama. Or an alpaca. Or a vicuña. Or any sort of camelid. Human male in Yorkshire. @LyndonMarquis. The llama in shadow, 10/11/14. January 19, 2015. March 17, 2015. Dreaming of Spring | Vintage Belle
https://avintagebelle.wordpress.com/2014/10/29/dreaming-of-spring
Creating pretty, elegant clothes with vintage dress patterns. October 29, 2014. In a bid to use up my stash fabrics, I gave in to Belle’s request for a version of Simplicity 1727 for herself. She wanted one in the remains of the Liberty lawn pansy print that I’d made earlier in the year for a local florist. 1956 Simplicity 1727 in Liberty lawn. I like this top, it’s simple and, depending on your fabric choice, cute. The only thing I don’t like about it is all the darned darts! Dress made with the black j...

Seam Finishes – Hong Kong or Bound Seam | Vintage Belle
https://avintagebelle.wordpress.com/2014/09/29/seam-finishes-hong-kong-or-bound-seam
Creating pretty, elegant clothes with vintage dress patterns. Seam Finishes – Hong Kong or Bound Seam. September 29, 2014. I’ve been working on another version of Butterick 9563. I used 12m on one knee length dress earlier this year! If you’re cutting your own bias strips, make them 3-3.5cm wide. You can always cut off the excess but there’s nothing worse than the binding being too narrow to be caught by your stitching. Press the binding strip away from the seam line, over the raw edge. Have fun playing ...

Butterflies in the jungle | Vintage Belle

Creating pretty, elegant clothes with vintage dress patterns. Butterflies in the jungle. January 29, 2015. Retro Vogue 7757 in butterfly print polyester satin. So – it’s been a while! You’d be forgiven if you’d thought I have forsaken this blog, but really things just got completely out of control in December. This shirt has now become my Jungle January offering, simply because it’s taken that long to get to finish, and the print works! Megan is really happy with the result, I have to admit it wasn’...

A Jacket for Belle | Vintage Belle
https://avintagebelle.wordpress.com/2014/09/30/a-jacket-for-belle
Creating pretty, elegant clothes with vintage dress patterns. A Jacket for Belle. September 30, 2014. Late 50s, early 60s Butterick 9563. So this is it, Belle’s cropped, portrait collar jacket. Butterick 9563 dates from the late 50s or early 60s and has proven popular! I’ve made the jacket 4 times now! This one though, is not for sale. I found the fabric, a cotton canvas, at the NEC back in March on the Doughty. 8216;s stand. They have a large selection of ex-Paul Smith fabrics. So another successful mak...

Found – Black Diamonds | Vintage Belle
https://avintagebelle.wordpress.com/2014/10/07/found-black-diamonds
Creating pretty, elegant clothes with vintage dress patterns. Found – Black Diamonds. October 7, 2014. It looks like I’m finally going to be making a vintage dress up for Belle’s sister! I made her accompany me to the sewing bloggers meet-up in Birmingham this Saturday and arrived armed with three 60s patterns I thought she’d look great in. To my surprise, while telling her the silhouette was “in”, she said she liked one of them and wouldn’t mind looking for fabric for it! I bet you’re wondering wh...
