Each month I feature a recording that I particularly enjoyed making, and that I hope will receive wide exposure. I also write a little about the recording process, and list the equipment I used. Peters Pick for July 2008. La Terpsichore: Music of Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre and François Couperin". Arthur Haas, harpsichord. Plectra Music PL 20702. Kneel on a cushion? Sit away from the instrument and lean far forward? Arthur Haas is one of the most sensitive, imaginative harpsichordists I know, and work...

Astoria's Harpsichordist: Replacing Harpsichord Strings
http://astoriasharpsichordist.blogspot.com/2009/10/replacing-harpsichord-strings.html
Thursday, October 1, 2009. Woo-ee, replacing harpsichord strings is probably one of my least favorite things to do on the instrument. The sound of a breaking string strikes fear in my heart and jarrs the ears. In fact, I heard the sound of a breaking string on a video today and it almost gave me a heart attack. On the harpsichord list. Glad I was finally taught how to do it right. Are you curious how to change a string on an old style pin? At 10/01/2009 02:00:00 PM. March 29, 2010 at 6:38 PM. I forgot to...

Astoria's Harpsichordist: I'm Back
http://astoriasharpsichordist.blogspot.com/2009/09/im-back.html
Wednesday, September 30, 2009. I've decided to re-ignite this blog. Since I posted last. I took some time off, got a regular job, and am going to return to playing the harpsichord this fall/winter. It has been an interesting and illuminating time away from the instrument. I hope to share some of what I've learned, here. Meanwhile, my harpsichord is sitting on its side in the back bedroom. It may stay there for another month, we'll see. At 9/30/2009 01:50:00 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Astoria's Harpsichordist: Diane Hubbard Obituary
http://astoriasharpsichordist.blogspot.com/2009/10/diane-hubbard-obituary.html
Sunday, October 4, 2009. I just read the obituary. Of Diane Hubbard, widow of harpsichord builder Frank Hubbard. She died the afternoon of September 22 of this year, from cancer. She was 71. At the time of taking the helm of their business, there weren't. Really any women in a similar position; all the women involved were musicians (not a bad thing). Has much changed since the 70s? RIP, Diane Hubbard. Photo (c) boston.com. At 10/04/2009 07:01:00 PM. BTW check the design Ive made myself Female escorts.

Peters Pick for July 2008. Aug 14, 2008. La Terpsichore: Music of Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre and François Couperin". Arthur Haas, harpsichord. Plectra Music PL 20702. I have known John for many years and worked alongside him on many projects. I am also intimately familiar with his instruments, particularly his copies of the Dumont, so it was fascinating to join him for this project, when we would be hearing the original. Recording at St. Bridgets Church. There are a few purpose-built facilities for classical music recording - Skywalker Ranch in northern California comes to mind - but although these rooms are very quiet and have wonderful acoustics, and the surroundings may be luxurious, the cost is very high - thousands of dollars per day. A Bit of Church History. The goal of Friends of St. Bridgets is to preserve the church building in its original condition and surroundings. Therefore, the use of the building f...The b...
