Wednesday, June 18, 2014. Day #40. Finished with radiation. Phil Rings the Bell! Actually, he rang it three times. Once for the wonderful staff at Johns Hopkins. Once for the friends we made in the radiation waiting room. During these eight weeks, especially one very dedicated volunteer. And once for a darling young patient. Who wears a white knit cap and a pretty smile. Labels: In Sickness and In Health. Tuesday, June 17, 2014. Day #39 of 40: 97.5% complete! Almost, almost, almost. Monday, June 16, 2014.

The Erstwhile Librarian: June 2009
http://erstwhilelibrarian.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Retirement is a week filled with Saturdays and Sundays interrupted only occasionally by a holiday. Thursday, June 11, 2009. I can hardly believe this day has finally arrived. It seems like only minutes ago we were booking our Baltic Sea cruise (it was actually last October) and now it's here. Our bags are packed and we will be driving to our friends' home to meet the airport shuttle in just a few short hours. I hope everyone has a wonderful next two weeks and I'll "see" you soon. Thursday, October 16, 2014. Reported that the wasabi we've all been eating is actually just "plain old horseradish" dyed green. The green dye is a combination of yellow dye # 5 and blue dye # 1. Fire belched from his ears. Tears filled his eyes. Professor K. said, "Oh, no, you didn't- - ". Beer, tea, water were no help at all. He was wasabi-wise after that. Wednesday, October 15, 2014. Next to the quail eggs was a carton of "Preserved Duck Egg." The package pictured an unappetizing-looking purplish-b...

Friday, July 25, 2014. Babe at the Beach. Becky and Tom were beginning to think that adoption might not happen for them. They had applied to adopt when their natural son, Nate, was about three, and he was about to start kindergarten. They were in their mid-forties. Many birth parents seemed to be looking for younger couples. Toward the end of May, the adoption agency unexpectedly called Becky and Tom with exciting news. A newborn girl was available for adoption. Were they still interested? One afternoon,...

Saturday, May 31, 2014. Day #27 of 40 Scheduled Treatments. His date with "Synergy" lasts about 10 minutes. Once a week, he sees his oncologist, Dr. Tran, a good guy if ever there was one. Usually we stop for lunch on the way home. We're back by 1 PM at the latest. It's a bit of a grind, but I am not complaining. I am so glad we live near Hopkins. Labels: In Sickness and In Health. Saturday, February 7, 2015. Some people are experts at realizing all kinds of benefits from their dreams. The Bible tells stories of people who eluded danger because they heeded an angel's warning that came to them in a dream. These days we hear of people who go to sleep mulling over a problem and wake up with a solution. So I explained the situation to our daughter and gave her $20. If I find the earrings, you'll have to give the twenty back, I said. Ha ha, she said. Why hadn't I thought of that? I'd bo...
