La Belle France

Tuesday, August 2, 2011. I think it's time to conclude this blog. I had kept it open for months, believing that Stephan and I would eventually end up in France, living our happily ever after as a married couple. I had been thankful that France had brought us together, that I had been fortunate enough to find that perfect someone to grow old with, the way people in movies do. But as always, life throws curveballs. The verdict is still out on that one). I have loved you very much. Monday, April 11, 2011.

La Belle France: April 2011

http://katiefleetwood.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 11, 2011. And now, Stephan's left, and I'm in bed at 10 on a school night. Stephan will be back in August, and if the government processes our application for our fiancé visa in the normal amount of time, we'll be getting married very soon after. And then? The questions are still unanswered. We still might end up in France. But we still might be back here. Time will tell, I guess. But right now, I'm wishing I could have frozen time. My mind is right here. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

La Belle France: July 2010

http://katiefleetwood.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 9, 2010. Inside a French Reitrement Home. So, let's start with the sad news: I've had to change my About Me section. I'm now a 25 year old Indianapolis native. Good grief. Getting old. We brought along our instruments and our plates of diabetic friendly and unfriendly cookies. I played a few songs on the flute, and actually had difficulty focusing, because the woman in the front row kept tossing me kisses and exclaiming about how wonderful it was to have music. We also had trumpet and gu...

La Belle France: September 2010

http://katiefleetwood.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Friday, September 24, 2010. Summer brings changes. I suppose it isn't really that everyone actually changes all that much during the summer. It's more that everyone runs off to their different vacation destinations or summer camps or quoi ce ça soit. During the summer, then we don't see one another for several months, and once fall comes, we all are very aware of the differences in one another. Now, with the women in my class, the changes are entirely different. 8221;, “Fatima morte! This was still a hug...

Katie in Cambodia: July 2009

Thursday, July 23, 2009. A Day in My Life. Some friends have told me they really want to hear about my day to day life in Cambodia. Well, yesterday was such an interesting day that I'd like to share the whole thing with you! It's pretty detailed, so if you want the good part, skip to the afternoon! Here is the story of Wednesday, July 22, 2009:. Call the volunteers coming back to Phnom Penh to see what time they might arrive. Work on balancing a cash advance for the ESL program. Talk with Ashley, our ESL...

Katie in Cambodia: June 2009

http://katieincambodia.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, June 24, 2009. Two Months in Cambodia! This week marks two months since I packed my life into two 50 lb. suitcases (as well as a compact carryon and a computer bag) and moved to Cambodia. One forth of my stint here has already passed by! So, how am I doing? How is life in Cambodia? I am doing very well! And I am really enjoying life here on the other side of the world! I do feel homesick occasionally, but I've only cried myself to sleep one time! Fun friends at the Hope staff retreat in May].

Katie in Cambodia: May 2009

http://katieincambodia.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Saturday, May 30, 2009. I've been so bad about posting anything lately, I thought I should start with some pictues of my life here in Cambodia! Here are just a few from my visit to the field during my second week- almost one month ago! My roommate Kirsten and I traveled north to Kampong Cham province to meet staff and visit three World Relief programs: SPY (community health education), Hope (evangelism, cell church planting, and HIV/AIDS support), and CREDIT (micro-financing lending). I got to come along...

Katie in Cambodia: October 2009

http://katieincambodia.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 19, 2009. I really enjoy languages. The more I learn, the more I love them. But because I enjoyed discovering how novels in French communicate differently than novels in English; how individual words, when translated, take on whole new meanings; and that I am able to express myself in a totally different way in a foreign language. For many people it would be a no brainer- they would much rather spend a year in Italy than in France. But, I was ready for France! That I heard before! Usually...

Katie in Cambodia: April 2009

http://katieincambodia.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 26, 2009. Let the Adventure Begin! This is my 4. Day in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I'm still in the process of overcoming jetlag. I'm adjusting to the heat (or at least learning to live with it). I'm learning about the city and I'm proud to say that I can find where I am on the map! I know how to say "thank you" (akun), "no" (ah te), and "yes" (jaa); but honestly I haven't been focusing on language learning yet. That will come soon! The first few days in a new place come with lots of stories!

Wednesday, September 30, 2009. 6 Days in Vietnam: Arriving in Hanoi. Never in my life did I think, or dream, of coming here. Yet, here I am. Hanoi was beautiful. So green. So alive. So…different. Choosing Hanoi was kind of random. A couple of months ago I found a great deal on the discount airline, Air Asia. My roommate and travel buddy, Kerstin, and I made a quick decision and bought tickets that weekend before the deal expired. Then, we started to research Hanoi! Please let us in? After running around ...

Katie in Cambodia: I Ate a Cricket...and I Didn't Die

http://katieincambodia.blogspot.com/2009/11/i-ate-cricketand-i-didnt-die.html

Friday, November 13, 2009. I Ate a Cricket.and I Didn't Die. While I jumped at the chance to eat a fried spider. (Okay, I didn't exactly. I was much more opposed to eating another favorite treat in Cambodia: fried cricket. Just something about all of the little parts: legs, wings, head, skeleton- you can see them all (as pictured below)! Victor, for all of his maturity and blessing to the team, is very much a 12 year old kid- and he really wanted to eat some crickets! And I didn't die. :). Note: This pho...

Friday, January 22, 2010. Back Home in Indiana. To all of the wonderful people who followed this blog last year: THANK YOU! I loved reading your comments on the blog or on facebook. It was such encouragement just to know that someone was reading! For now, I'm back in Indiana and "Katie in Indianapolis" does not have quite the same ring to it, so I'm moving back to a blog. And just about this journey, as I grow in my faith and learn more about following Christ and living for Him. My most recent post is ti...
