Around the Country in 60 Days!: March 2009
http://katielabarre.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Around the Country in 60 Days! For life's not a paragraph. Monday, March 16, 2009. I've put up pictures on my album of my Spring Break trip to Vienna, Salzburg, and Prague, and then added pictures of me and Tom in London and Rome! Unfortunately I'm almost completely out of money so I'm not sure how much more traveling I'll be able to do but hopefully I'll be able to get to Scotland and visit Luli. To see the pictures, go to http:/ picasaweb.google.com/Katie.LaBarre/LondonPictures#.
Around the Country in 60 Days!: ...I don't think we're in Florida anymore...

Around the Country in 60 Days! For life's not a paragraph. Monday, June 28, 2010. I don't think we're in Florida anymore. Tallahassee was an interesting place, we met some fun people at the pub (which was SO RIDICULOUSLY CROWDED) and ended up staying the night with an old hippie. Coolest house ever - I've never seen so many knick knacks all in one place! But not really what we were in the mood for. No worries though, we went home, watched a movie and went to sleep! Today has been mostly trying to sleep w...

Around the Country in 60 Days!: The Big Easy: Where you can drink outside and smoke inside!!

Around the Country in 60 Days! For life's not a paragraph. Thursday, July 1, 2010. The Big Easy: Where you can drink outside and smoke inside! To sum up my time in New Orleans: Rainy. Bad roads. BEST TIME EVER! Seriously, this has been my favorite place by far up until now. Let's see if I can summarize what we did and why I am seriously considering moving here. After we moved in with our couch surfing hosts (who were AWESOME, by the way! Yet another reason to love this place. Around 3 (I think? So now we...

for life's not a paragraph: December 2013
http://gringanomad.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
For life's not a paragraph. Saturday, December 28, 2013. Floating, Free Falling, and a Beautiful Finish. I immediately grabbed a co-worker and made plans to see the beach that weekend. The closest and most popular beach to Antigua is Monterrico, a 2.5-hour drive away on the Pacific Coast. It's known for its black volcanic sands and unruly undertow in the surf (you can't really. But as I waited, two guys from our tour group hoisted themselves up and over the iron rails and off the edge, just like that....
for life's not a paragraph: January 2013
http://gringanomad.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
For life's not a paragraph. Thursday, January 31, 2013. I moved (already). As much as I loved living with my host family, it’s cheaper to live on my own, and it allows me to live at my own pace. I now live about 8 blocks north of Lucky and Jose, in a house that I share with 5 other Safe Passage volunteers and 2 other gringos who work/study in Antigua. The vacant remains of 17. Hill of the Cross) marks the north, and Volcano Agua. Antigua attracts heaps of international ex-pats, as well as wealthy Guatema...
for life's not a paragraph: Where to throw the toilet paper and other (reverse) culture shock experiences
http://gringanomad.blogspot.com/2013/05/where-to-throw-toilet-paper-and-other.html
For life's not a paragraph. Friday, May 31, 2013. Where to throw the toilet paper and other (reverse) culture shock experiences. I took a trip home this month. Back to my beloved STL, my family and friends, my baseball. After a whirlwind visit, I flew out to the only other place I’ve ever considered home – DC. I didn’t get enough time in either place, but the time I did spend was wonderful. A few things, however, struck me quite differently than they used to. How did we all end up doing it that way?
for life's not a paragraph: My Dry Hot Guatemalan Summer
http://gringanomad.blogspot.com/2013/04/dry-hot-guatemalan-summer.html
For life's not a paragraph. Wednesday, April 17, 2013. My Dry Hot Guatemalan Summer. It’s nearing the end of “summer” in Guatemala. As this “summer” rolled along, the Lenten season in Antigua incited a barrage of purple banners, street vendors, and heavier-than-usual traffic. Swarms of people from the City and surrounding towns flocked in to view the town’s famous Lenten processions. Lent culminates in Holy Week. And a homemade chocolate operation. After a lively, mildly crowded chicken bus. Ride, we suc...
for life's not a paragraph: October 2010
http://gringanomad.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
For life's not a paragraph. Thursday, October 28, 2010. Small Town Charms and Big City Sights. Have now lived in Colombia for over a month (? No more sign of my secret admirer, but meanwhile more important things have been happening. And so time flies! Thursday, October 14, 2010. Well, that's new to me. 48 were Colombian. So almost half. Often because they choose to exercise rights that we in the States take for granted. The first entry for October. Other duties lately: making speakers’ tour. I’ve ...
for life's not a paragraph: November 2010
http://gringanomad.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
For life's not a paragraph. Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Keep on the Sunny Side, Always on the Sunny Side. I have never seen so much rain in my life. President Santos declared a “state of calamity” for nearly the entire country for how much it’s been raining here. It never stops. Even just when you think maybe, maaaybe it will stay clear today, you feel that first drop. Shoot me. Never hurts to have an extremely seasoned world traveler give your homeland so much praise. Until then, though, I’m soaki...

for life's not a paragraph: When things aren't so new anymore
http://gringanomad.blogspot.com/2013/02/when-things-arent-so-new-anymore.html
For life's not a paragraph. Wednesday, February 27, 2013. When things aren't so new anymore. Where has time gone? I mentioned recently to some friends from home that it had been a month since I left the States. They said, wow, it feels like so much longer. I said, what? I feel like I left yesterday. There is so much I haven’t seen, so much I still want to learn and explore and master here. How is it nearly March? And what have I been doing all this time? Greet friends with a kiss on the cheek. Get used t...
for life's not a paragraph: December 2012
http://gringanomad.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
For life's not a paragraph. Monday, December 10, 2012. Where DID I Put My Passport? Last night I bought a ticket to Guatemala. I will be leaving the country for the first time in over 18 months, and it is about damn time. If you know me at all, you know I don't stay in one place for very long. Travel, especially international travel, is among my top passions in life. When I go to catch up with someone I haven't seen in awhile, almost as common as "So, what's new with you? What have you been up to? Thus, ...

Katie's Project 365 Photoblog
Katie’s Project 365 Photoblog. Sunday, May 3, 2009. 8212; katiel365 @ 5:31 pm. This week’s theme “50 steps from your door.”. This was technically 52 steps. Does it still count? Sunday, April 26, 2009. 8212; katiel365 @ 7:29 pm. Not exactly a “sport” but it’s about as athletic I get, unless you count moving furniture around. This was taken at the last minute because I spent a week trying to figure out something more creative. Friday, April 17, 2009. 8212; katiel365 @ 5:23 pm. 16} new leather chairs. 8220;...
Between A Rock and Hard Place | A great WordPress.com site
Between A Rock and Hard Place. A great WordPress.com site. Finally praise the lord I have found wifi! So there has been quite a change of plan from what I had intentionally planned as I received word that my friend would be biking up in Scotland, therefore I thought I may as well have a little taster before I leave the UK. At around 3pm we came across fellow backpackers / bikers / kilt wearing madmen! The only was I can describe that moment was something like the Design Argument with the watch in the des...

Around the Country in 60 Days! For life's not a paragraph. Wednesday, August 4, 2010. Catching up. slowly but surely. NEW MEXICO AND ARIZONA. Ok so, because I’m so behind on everything I’m going to try to remember the important things and leave the little details behind. I realized that the longer I go without writing this stuff up, the harder it’s going to be to write everything up so bear with me while I work out my baby steps. Haha. 8226; The next night we went around downtown Albuquerque. It was ...
