Adventures in Spain

Year two of living and working abroad. Wednesday, July 13, 2011. Galicia, San Fermines, and leaving Spain. I’ve had a pretty busy couple of weeks. I have travelled to London (please note the double L for speakers of British English) and have now moved out of my apartment and said goodbye to Vitoria-Gasteiz forever. (I don’t actually know if it’s FOREVER, but I’m pretty sure. Mostly I just like to use that word for dramatic effect). That, and go out for La Noche de San Juan). I mean, I had like 5 suitcases.

Adventures in Spain: May 2010

http://www.katiesadventuresinspain.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Year two of living and working abroad. Monday, May 24, 2010. La vida vallisoletana part deux. Hola friends and family! I just wanted to take a moment to write about my last two weekends and life in general in Valladolid. My last month here is quickly approaching (I finish at Ribera de Castilla June 15th, at the academy June 25th and I move out on June 30th) and I find it hard to believe how time flies! That same weekend Marta and her boyfriend, Joaquín, came to visit! When we got down there the tour guid...

Adventures in Spain: August 2010

http://www.katiesadventuresinspain.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Year two of living and working abroad. Tuesday, August 31, 2010. On Eurotripping and Wisconsin summer. Well, as you can see I've taken a brief, or not so brief, hiatus from blogging. But now it's a new [school] year and thus time for a new look to my blog. Before I dive in to life thus far in my new place of residence I wanted to reminisce about the amazing, dare I say, life-changing summer I've had. As you know, after leaving my beloved (? When I finish I will post the link: HERE.

Adventures in Spain: September 2010

http://www.katiesadventuresinspain.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Year two of living and working abroad. Thursday, September 30, 2010. Let the chaos begin! Let the chaos begin. The month of September "se ha echo eterno." I feel like it's never going to end. I think that's because I'm finally back to work after summer vacation (a rather lengthy one, may I add) and it hasn't been exactly, well, a pleasant transition back. And I haven’t even begun teaching at the high school yet! It should be pretty good. I still have to prepare my little talk. Speaking of which, ...Apart...

Adventures in Spain: March 2011

http://www.katiesadventuresinspain.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Year two of living and working abroad. Thursday, March 31, 2011. My Parents in Spain! So after many months (no, make that years) of waiting, Mom and Dad finally made the trip to Spain! We rented a car (got upgraded to an Audi- score! Was no way my dad was going to let me drive- as if, haha! After an anxious four hour car ride we finally arrived in Oviedo where we met Marta's dad, Carlos Sr., notario. But the truth is that it wasn't out of the ordinary for me because it was such a long time coming. Ma...

Lunes, 30 de mayo de 2011. A while back my friend and incredible blogger Sarah. Did two really funny articles on Stuff Americans Like. And Stuff Europeans Like. One of the insightful entries under Stuff Europeans Like is "Eating the Whole Animal." Viernes, 27 de abril de 2012. As a means of updating the internet world on my future activities - which I know you have been dying. To hear about - I will be staying in Spain next year. I am going to get a Masters at the University of Málaga in education. There are two programs I am applying for: one dealing with innovation in education, and the other which is essentially a teaching certificate for people who already have university degrees. Why am I staying? Let me count the ways. So that's it, dwindlin...

Where to?: Two steps to the east, one to the west

http://letsseehowfarwego.blogspot.com/2012/01/two-steps-to-east-one-to-west.html

Jueves, 12 de enero de 2012. Two steps to the east, one to the west. These last two years I've gotten very used to being publicly transported. Living in a northern neighborhood of Málaga and getting down the coast to Fuengirola and later up the mountain to Benalmádena pueblo, my mornings and afternoons were one bus ride after another. This year, the gods smiled on me and gave me a school right in the heart of the city. A short ride on the city bus and there I am. View, photo by José. Teach, Learn, Run.

Lunes, 28 de noviembre de 2011. Andalucía is blessed with a gem of a local TV network: Canalsur. It's now in HD. Because that's what it needed. Domingo, 24 de julio de 2011. Loyal yet dwindling readership: I'm still alive. I will still be blogging. Let me explain myself. On the positive side: the hours are long but I'm learning lots on how to be a good teacher. I'm living rent-free and my only expenditure is at a fine establishment called Antonio's Bar. The air is cool and refreshing. The countryside is beautiful, bucolic, and I´ve been taking nice runs around the nearby lake. Photo courtesy of Sarah, of Love and Paella. Spinach sheet pan quiche.

Viernes, 4 de mayo de 2012. In which I relive a teenage dream. First, before I begin this post, I am deeply. Lunes, 29 de agosto de 2011. This weekend my family and I went to Michigan to bury my grandfather. Grandpa Jim died at age 85 a few weeks ago and this past weekend was the burial of his ashes. It was both sad to say goodbye to him and wonderful to see family that I have not seen for many, many years. When packing for the funeral, I frantically came out to tell my mom I had nothing black to wear and we should get something before I go. It was Grandpa Jim, summed up perfectly.
