Katie's in Africa

Wednesday, 3 August 2011. Our first stop in Zambia was a campsite in Chipata not far from the border. Warned the distances between stops in Zambia were quite large we’d stocked up on truck snacks in advance… One of our group noted that travelling expands your mind as well as your behind. The monkeys were also particularly cheeky here, watching as we set up food and waiting until someone turned their back before leaping down and grabbing things. Leaving everyone to get my flight to Johannesburg was harder...

Katie's in Africa: Where the Malawi are we?

http://katiesinafrica.blogspot.com/2011/08/where-malawi-are-we.html

Monday, 1 August 2011. Where the Malawi are we? Known as the warm heart of Africa, Malawi is an incredibly beautiful country albeit one of the poorest in the world. It has a huge population for its land-size and serious food shortages because of the lack of arable land. Lake Malawi is over 29,000 square kilometres, takes up a large percentage of the country and has been over-fished to the detriment of the nation’s food supply. Our first campsite on the beach. Lake Malawi is more like an ocean.

Katie's in Africa: Zanzibar and Ruaha national park

http://katiesinafrica.blogspot.com/2011/07/zanzibar.html

Saturday, 23 July 2011. Zanzibar and Ruaha national park. After leaving Sean at Kilimanjaro airport for a connecting flight to Nairobi, I stepped on the plane to Zanzibar for 2 extra nights of beach. It would take the others nearly three days to reach the largest of the spice islands off the coast of Tanzania but the flight took only one hour. The town itself has narrow, cobbled streets and many hotels and restaurants of western standards, which was pretty exciting for us. Despite the stunning surroundin...

So I have decided to post some work from the past year so I can get the ball rolling on this blog, while I am in a long process of building a website (something I really don't have a clue to do). So here are some of my favorite portraits from the past (school) year, bring my second year of college to a close. Images by Katie Simpson. Our first assign...

Becoming Chilenismo

Friday, October 31, 2008. Dia (Semana) de Profesoras. After this first opening night, the celebration lasted the whole week afterward. After school each day (or actually after lunch when we would typically have school), there was some sort of competition either at the beach or at one of the schools. There were things from volleyball, to broom ball, baby escobar. My school got 2nd place in that event. It was all very fun. Which is Most Cool or " Mas Sexi". Otherwise, HAPPY HALLOWEEN! It should be an excit...

Digital Publications

Thursday, May 14, 2009. Thursday, May 7, 2009. I'm in digital publications this morning still working on my invite, trying to make it more complex and visually appealing as at the moment it's a little bit boring. I'm trying to put pictures on it although I'm having difficulties trying to print it once I get home as half the images black out. Once I have a finished design I'll try to print it in the library. Anyway better get a move on. Thursday, April 30, 2009. Thursday, April 23, 2009.

Katie's Blog | Surviving Infidelity and Extramarital Affairs

Surviving Infidelity and Extramarital Affairs. How do you cope as a BS when you can’t eat, sleep, or think straight? One email question I receive frequently from the betrayed spouse is: how do I cope during the early stages of discovery when my mind refuses to settle down? Here is an excerpt from a longer article that I wrote a few years ago. The full article is located at www.aftertheaffair.net/article01.htm. And now how do you cope when you can’t eat, sleep, or think straight? Talking to a counselor wi...
