A regular ophthalmoscope allows the examiner to see through the pupil to the back of the eye - but because the pupil is small the view is restricted. OCT stands for Optical Coherence Tomography, and also goes by the name "SCODI", which stands for Scanning Computerized Ophthalmic Diagnostic Imaging. O.C.T. allows us to see structures inside the eye as if they were cross-sectioned and under a microscope. There are basically three things we can look at using this technology.
