Traveler with an Idle Mind: December 2010
http://synlab.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Traveler with an Idle Mind. Saturday, December 25, 2010. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR…. As 2010 comes to a close, I can’t help but look back to the end of 2009. Satisfied that 2010 would be different, I didn’t give that prayer a second thought. That is, until now. January 10th: I woke from a sound sleep with a sharp stabbing pain in my side. It was so painful, I seriously considered going to the emergency room, but decided to tough it out. Feb 3rd: Harry, my gall bladder, was permanently removed. One par...

Traveler with an Idle Mind: July 2011
http://synlab.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Traveler with an Idle Mind. Friday, July 22, 2011. Carnival week: two words that could strike fear into the hearts of staunch, brave men. Carnival week: always occurred the third week of July, when one could be sure of three things: high humidity, scattered or severe thunderstorms, and a visit by the mayflies. Carnival week: when an odiferous array of tantalizing smells assaulted the nose depending on which way the wind blew. Every year as I waited for customers, during the quiet moments in the evening, ...

Traveler with an Idle Mind: April 2012
http://synlab.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Traveler with an Idle Mind. Saturday, April 7, 2012. A Memorable Easter Sunday. This being Easter weekend, made me remember back to one of my favorite Easters…. A specific Easter Sunday holds a special place in my heart. It was April 18, 1976 and I was fortunate to have been in. That weekend. It wasn't a planned trip. Oh no, it was quite the opposite. I remember I was ironing clothes. Yes, in those days clothes were still ironed and starched! We left Saturday evening on the bus from. As we rode through.

Traveler with an Idle Mind: SUMMER GRILLING: had me a blast!
http://synlab.blogspot.com/2014/07/summer-grilling-had-me-blast.html
Traveler with an Idle Mind. Saturday, July 12, 2014. SUMMER GRILLING: had me a blast! While it might be too hot to cook in the kitchen, summer grilling is never a problem. Now days, with the super grills they sell, you can cook or bake just about anything outdoors. But even if all you have at your disposal is a tabletop charcoal grill, you can still be the top chef in the neighborhood. Examples of acids in marinades are: citrus juices (lemons, limes, and oranges), wine, vinegar, yogurt and buttermilk.

Traveler with an Idle Mind. Saturday, October 23, 2010. Hook, Slice or Sinker? A sportswriter was once asked if he were to compare writing to a sport, which sport would he choose. Without even thinking, he replied, “Golf. Most definitely golf.”. The interviewer asked, “Why golf? 8217;t it obvious? 8221; the sportswriter asked rhetorically. “Golfers golf for the love of the game. Writers write for the love of their craft. Do you understand? 8220;But what does all that have to do with writing? I’m so...

Traveler with an Idle Mind. Friday, October 9, 2009. 8230;or how a tired mind works during a long bus ride at 5:30 in the morning…. I was sitting outside waiting for my bus and I thought about that discovery. Now it’s not like the dinosaurs disappeared last week so I have to wonder, why didn’t anyone find this giant footprint before? Of course, that got me thinking things buried in the ground. And no—I don’t mean dead people in cemeteries. Flash forward to present. The grandson of the former downstairs t...

Traveler with an Idle Mind: A Christmas Quiz
http://synlab.blogspot.com/2011/12/christmas-quiz.html
Traveler with an Idle Mind. Saturday, December 10, 2011. By now, everyone is caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season: shopping, baking, traveling… Whatever the time, writers still do what we do best. We write. Better yet, pour yourself a glass of eggnog and share the quiz with family and friends. I did NOT include the answers. If you want them, please email me. 1 Oh, member of the round table with missing areas. Of the tinkling metal spheres. 4 Wanted in December: top forward. 19 Jubilat...
