I was going to have a tiny sip now and save some to review later, but I became so excited about this wine that I had to review it straightaway. Don says it tastes like black cherries, like you might have in black cherry ice cream.

I simply had to try Viña Ulmo after reading the label: "A youthful, deep red wine, easy-drinking and ripe, with a distinctive aroma of green pepper and coffee. It is soft and smooth with rich chocolate and berry notes.". Someone commented that it smelled like rancid meat, and someone else was sure the wine contained bull's blood, but the label boasts of its suitability for vegetarians.

This is Hitomi, one of the chefs of Kujira no Andy. Here's Yoshihiro putting the finishing touch on dessert. Our friends refer to the couple collectively as "Andy.". Left to right: Yuki, Kazuki, Koki, Yumi. Little Kimi is asleep in a pram. The take-no-ko, or bamboo shoots, on the right hand side were the most savory, melty thing I'd ever tasted.

I spent day two in Kobe with my old friends Muyan and Mike. A more perfect day cannot be imagined. The weather was clear and the sky was blue. We stumbled upon the Kobe German Beer Festival, complete with pretzels, accordions, and happy people drinking delicious beer. The festival was in Harborland. Then a walk through Sannomiya.
