Katy Simpson’s paintings hold a narrative. But they explore a narrative that resists closure and one single truth, that hints at the multi-. Faceted possibilities of individual experience through memory, time and space. The images rely on contiguity, the contingency of a detail, for meaning. Meaning does not lie in one single complete picture but is defined by what has gone before and what follows. Katy simpson 1995 -.
