Kayak blogs from Mississippi. Sunday, August 14, 2011. The water is rediculously warm this time of year. The fish can't turn on the A/C, either. I wonder if they like it? It feels good to just let you hands or feet swim around in it. I've been swimming laps at the pool lately and I'd love to get out there and swim in Graveline, but it's so muddy and shallow, not to mention full of crabs, shrimp, gar, redfish, oysters, and alligators. So yeah. maybe not. And a pretty good workout. Sunday, August 07, 2011.

Another group paddle, this one inspired by a fellow paddler's interest in trying different boats to see if a sea kayak would be more suited to his type of paddling than the ocean kayak (sit-on-top) that he has been in. DO head right (West) out of the launch site because you will experience some of the best paddling in the state, which includes spectacular and diverse scenery. Luscious vegetation surrounds the area, but scattered throughout are large boulders where you can take a snack break and a handful of marsh like areas to watch the heron search for an afternoon meal.

There are a handful of free and very accessible places to launch a kayak besides the main launch site at Quemahoning Recreation Area, so keep that in mind if you head to Somerset County. The water is quite calm on the reservoir and the scenery is beautiful, but unfortunately there isn't a lot of wildlife visible on the water mostly because of the influx of tourist that frequent the area during the summer months.
