Coconut Joan: Marigolds
http://joanium.blogspot.com/2008/12/marigolds.html
No compunctions about eating dessert first. Saturday, December 27, 2008. For me, washing dishes is meditative. As I wash the dishes, I am also flushing away all my worries. Also, dishwashing is exciting - SUDS, water water water, CLEAN! The day after moving into my Cambridge home. My housemate Di exclaimed, 'Joan, you're so funny! What are the marigolds for? What was she she was talking about? Why are they called marigolds? Oh, I think it's a brand name,' Di said. I have now been buying Marigolds for all...

Coconut Joan: Dumb resolution
http://joanium.blogspot.com/2009/01/dumb-resolution.html
No compunctions about eating dessert first. Wednesday, January 07, 2009. I have a lot of experience setting objectives and targets. I do it for a living and I pretty well know how to put together a target, commitment or goal that actually spurs people to change what they do. It may surprise you, then, that I have made a dumb new year's resolution. It's dumb because it's not SMART - Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic or Time-bound. My resolution is: 'To enjoy going to the gym'. But I shouldn't be...

Coconut Joan: Home
http://joanium.blogspot.com/2007/09/home.html
No compunctions about eating dessert first. Saturday, September 15, 2007. I flew home to Melbourne on Wednesday, arriving Thursday. I have a cold and felt wretched for most of the 23 hour trip. The only movie I could manage was 300. I'm at home with mum and dad and enjoying it a lot. Jason asked me, 'So, Joan. Does it feel like you never left? I am still sick but I reckon I'll get better soon. Welcome home. :). A fridge full of yummy food? But other people like mum's food too. 300 - historically faithful.

Coconut Joan: Boots twin
http://joanium.blogspot.com/2008/12/boots-twin.html
No compunctions about eating dessert first. Monday, December 01, 2008. I am a little freaked out after visiting Boots. Today There are really big posters of a mother and daughter hanging from the ceiling. The mother's face is obscured and the daughter is smiling into the camera. I had to look twice to confirm it but it's true - the girl looks almost exactly like me! Labels: something i saw. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Time for a change? The indefensible 5% target. Things...

Coconut Joan: Making things clear
http://joanium.blogspot.com/2008/11/making-things-clear.html
No compunctions about eating dessert first. Thursday, November 27, 2008. I was in the fifth floor kitchenette at work, watching Dave fill up his plastic cup of water. When he finished he turned to me, expectant and uncertain. Clearly, he sensed the 'I want to say something to you' vibe of my loitering. My company is full of environmentally friendly people, yet despite recurring requests, the stacked column of plastic cups continues to be replenished. Is it' I paused, '.a cultural thing? I had speculated ...

Coconut Joan: Engineer: not what you think
http://joanium.blogspot.com/2007/08/engineer-not-what-you-think.html
No compunctions about eating dessert first. Monday, August 27, 2007. Engineer: not what you think. There are some things about the UK that seem so ordinary to the natives that they never think to mention them. In fact, such things are becoming ordinary to me, too, so I'd better write them down before I forget how weird they are. In England (don't know about the rest of the country), they use sodium arc lamps, which are orange. I don't like them. They don't seem quite bright enough. There is a High Street.

Coconut Joan: The golden hours
http://joanium.blogspot.com/2008/11/golden-hours.html
No compunctions about eating dessert first. Thursday, November 13, 2008. I really like the light in Cambridge and London, which are the places that I've lived in the UK. When the sun is out, we get a soft golden light. It's the same as the light we get on an early Melbourne morning, only we're getting at two or three o'clock in the afternoon in London/Cambridge. The ' golden hours. Is lower here in London/Cambridge than it is in Melbourne. Do you think that's right? This is Sackler Crossing at Kew Gardens.

Coconut Joan: Giant chocolate square
http://joanium.blogspot.com/2008/08/giant-chocolate-square.html
No compunctions about eating dessert first. Sunday, August 17, 2008. Abstaining from chocolate makes me think fondly of the last block of chocolate I owned. It was a massive block from Peru. A gift from Damjan's parents. How big was it? It was around 25 cm long, 10 cm wide and 2 cm deep. Divided into around 12 squares, each square of chocolate was five or six times bigger than an average chocolate square. Never has a single square of chocolate yielded so much chocolate yumminess! I think I understand wha...
